About the Opportunity

This is an open position with FirstEnergy Service Co., a subsidiary of FirstEnergy Corp. [FEU].

The reporting location can be any of the FE facilities. The Candidate for this position is considered mobile, with most of the week working from home and the possibility of traveling to an FE facility up to two days per week.

This position is responsible for analyzing transmission system reliability performance data and determining root causes of transmission system reliability issues. This position is also accountable for determining solutions to resolve transmission system reliability issues, and coordinating / championing those solutions through to implementation.

Responsibilities include:

  • Initiating actions to collect data and information required for transmission system reliability analysis

  • Organizing transmission reliability data to facilitate analysis of transmission system reliability

  • Performing formal and rigorous analysis to determine the cause(s) and/or root cause of transmission system events

  • Performing statistical analyses of transmission reliability data to identify the primary drivers adversely impacting transmission system reliability

  • Developing and maintaining metrics demonstrating how FE transmission system reliability compares to applicable industry standards

  • Developing and maintaining leading indicators that ultimately help to predict reliability indices

  • Recommending to management, target levels of FE transmission system reliability performance relative to industry norms

  • Working with Planning & Protection, Engineering and others to identify options with recommendations for projects and initiatives to improve FE transmission system reliability

  • Coordinating and championing transmission system reliability improvement projects through to inclusion in transmission portfolio

  • Coordinating activities to assess FE transmission system performance and reliability (e.g. assist visits, self-assessments, etc.)

  • Developing and making presentations to leadership on status updates and/or project justifications

  • Serving as the lead and focal point for the transmission system reliability program across FEU

  • Championing and coordinating transmission reliability improvement initiatives through to conclusion

Qualifications include:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering from an ABET accredited institution is required. In lieu of a degree, a Professional Engineer’s (PE) License is required.

  • A Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) Certificate is preferred.

  • Minimum of 3 (three) years of Engineering experience is required.

  • A working knowledge of electrical engineering, transmission substation equipment, transmission system protection and transmission system operations are desired

  • Prior experience with root cause analysis, Six Sigma and / or statistical analysis is desired

  • Experience with Lean and/or continuous improvement processes are also desired

  • Must have strong analytical and problem-solving skills, along with excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Must possess the ability to continue to learn and grow, work across FirstEnergy, and deliver results
