W hat You Will Do:

  • Conceives and provides practical product design applications using complex technical principles. Emphasis of this position is on creating concepts and directing the design and development of complex engineering projects.

  • Prepares concept, design, development, and feasibility studies of complex engineering projects. Delegates portions of the project to other engineers and leads and coordinates the design, analysis, and computer simulation effort. Prepares development plans and is responsible for meeting scheduled dates. Acts as the development team leader by interacting with Plant locations and various engineering departments. Conducts technical evaluations of major systems on competitive products.

  • Coordinates product tests with prove design and prototype build up and test areas. Provides guidance to other engineers responsible for portions of the product project to ensure development schedules are met.

  • Evaluates, defines, and resolves design and manufacturing problems. Travels to foreign and domestic plants, dealerships, and customer job sites to solve design problems or to field test locations to evaluate a product improvement. Uses technical expertise and product knowledge to play the leadership role in the problem resolution process when interfacing with Test and Evaluation, Service, Plant personnel, suppliers, and consultants. Works with manufacturability teams resolving problems with manufacturing and statistical process controls.

  • Keeps abreast of latest technological advancements and prepares design concepts and develops unique product design features the Company often patents to gain competitive advantage. Travels worldwide to suppliers, production plants, dealerships, customer job sites, and field test locations related to the development of engineering projects and problem resolution.

Computer-Aided Design & Engineering: Knowledge of tools and techniques of specialized graphics programs; ability to produce, analyze, simulate and test product design drafts.

• Coaches others on orthographic, isometric and axonometric projections.

• Presents complex products and systems graphically.

• Performs manipulations on design objects, such as changing projections and managing drawing layers.

• Directs the matrix computations performed to transform objects in coordinate space.

• Consults on benefits and drawbacks of top-down design vs. bottom-up design.

• Compares and contrasts uses of bird's-eye views and worm's-eye views.

Product Design - MFG: Knowledge of processes, approaches, tools and techniques of product design; ability to convert customer and market requirements into product design.

Level Extensive Experience:

• Develops improvement plans for senior management and evaluates the outcome of the design against the functionality.

• Advises others on the development of multiple products and their functionality.

• Trains others on advanced tools and approaches of product design.

• Monitors the processes and procedures of a complex product design to ensure functional requirements are met.

• Evaluates feedback from customers and consults on functional weaknesses.

• Controls design and development costs of a proposed product through effective resource coordination.

Product Design and Development: Knowledge of product features; ability to design, build, and develop a new product, technology, or service from concept through to production.

Level Working Knowledge:

• Builds three-dimensional models with basic materials.

• Communicates with professionals to understand various requirements of product design.

• Tests and evaluates alternative means of production being considered for use.

• Uses automated tools to design or modify the design of a product.

• Assists in building a complex prototype of product.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree with 3-5 years’ work experience in engineering in Mechanical/Engine/Automobile or equivalent experience required

  • Technical knowledge and experience of engine product development methodology and tools (APQP, FMEA, DVP&R)

  • Fluency in English oral and written communication skills

Desired Qualifications:

  • Technical knowledge and experience in diesel engine core system components design and manufacture.

  • Demonstrated strong ability of problem-solving skills, experience of project management

  • Knowledge of Lean or 6 Sigma methodology and tools

Additional Information:

  • This position may require 10% travel.
