Description:

The Bakery-Pastry Chef provides planning, supervision, training, and support to the culinary program and the assigned culinary participants. The Baker/Pastry Chef will adhere to the policies established by The Arc Eastern Connecticut. The Arc ECT team believes that individuals with IDD can master essential skills and tasks within a reasonable time period for that individual. The Bakery-Pastry Chef will report directly to the Executive General Manger.

Essential Job Requirements:

  • Ensures health & safety and job training strategies that optimize the experience of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities in training situations and also in job placement.

  • Ensures the cleanliness and functional operation of equipment, kitchen appliances, and work areas by routinely cleaning and inspecting each piece, and attractiveness of all store facilities.

  • Bakes cookies with participants and follows the formula.

  • Creates and implements quality control measures on all products.

  • Develops and/or implements inventory control.

  • Ensures inventory is stocked and consistently replenished; conduct a physical inventory count as requested.

  • Ensures Dept of Health Standards are met and maintained for all products.

  • Remains informed of and ensure compliance with current health and food state regulations.

  • Implements trends, current techniques, and methods to provide services to adults with developmental disabilities.

  • Attends in-service training, seminars, and conferences.

  • Provides job coaching to individuals in the programs.

  • Provides advocacy for participants based on their personal choice and their individual plan.

  • Ensures the product produced at the culinary program is of the highest standard and is continuously quality assured.

  • Excellent organizational and time management skills

    Additional Responsibilities:

  • Ensures confidentiality as required by law and The Arc Eastern Connecticut and DDS policies and procedures which includes keeping records, conversations, correspondence (regarding programs, individuals, and staff) confidential.

  • Other duties may be designated to maintain service quality.

  • Works with a spirit of cooperation with all departments.

  • Carries out all job responsibilities in a professional manner.

  • Attends all agency staff meetings and training sessions.

  • Maintains attendance. Adheres to policies on attendance, days of absence, and illness.

  • Keeps the Director of Employment informed of any changes or deviations regarding established policies and procedures as well as the need for modification concerning areas of operation or activity.

  • Serves as a positive and appropriate role model for program participants and staff.

  • Develops and maintains positive relationships with participants, their families, and providers,

  • Responds to the needs of participants, families, and providers in a timely and professional manner.

    Required Trainings:

  • Will participate in all DDS and The Arc Eastern Connecticut trainings as required by policy.

    Minimum Qualifications:

  • A minimum of 2 yrs. culinary/business experience as "bakery-pastry chef and formal culinary bakery-pastry training at an accredited culinary school.

  • Associate degree, but Bachelors preferred in culinary studies preferred.

  • Must have a current ServSafe Certificate.

  • The Employment Opportunities Coordinator must have a valid driver’s license. This license must be maintained for the duration of employment. Will be required to obtain and maintain CPR, PMT, First Aid, and other pertinent certifications throughout the duration of their employment.

    Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to lift a minimum of 50 pounds and walk 10 steps.

  • Will be required to participate in lifts, transfers, and behavioral or physical intervention when necessary.

  • May be exposed to the risk of injury or exposure to occupational health hazards.

    Schedule:

  • Monday – Friday

  • 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM with salaried oversight as needed.

    Ability to commute/relocate:

  • Woodstock, CT: Reliably with a reasonable commute or planning to relocate before starting work.
