Job Description
General Purpose:
Ensure that all equipment is operating effectively and efficiently, including preventative maintenance, overhauls, modification, fabrication, welding, and mechanical and electrical troubleshooting.
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
Perform preventative maintenance and repairs of production and processing equipment as well as utility related equipment in compliance with all safety procedures
Support the installation of new equipment, support and implementation of preventive maintenance program
Assist the machine operators with training or troubleshooting to minimize equipment downtime
Ensure all repairs are documented
Keep management informed of any maintenance issues
Complete work orders as assigned
Dedicate effort to safety as we expect every employee to leave work in the same condition as they arrive
Follow all DFA good manufacturing practices (GMP) and work in a manner consistent with all corporate regulatory, food safety, quality, and sanitation requirements
Exhibit the values and ethics of Dairy Farmers of America through honesty, discretion, and sound judgment
Adhere to all DFA Quality, Safety and GMP policies and procedures and report any nonconformity
Attend required training, including but not limited to Safety, GMP, Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point (HACCP), and Safe Quality Foods (SQF)
Work schedule includes on call and weekend shifts

Minimum Requirements:
Education and Experience
High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED)
4 years of process manufacturing environment maintenance work experience
Certification and/or License – 2 year formal mechanical education certificate preferred
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and company computer systems, specifically SAP
Knowledge of machine shop equipment
Knowledge of pneumatics, solenoid valves, and air cylinders
Knowledge of PLC’s, Calibration of flow valves, level controllers, VFD’s, Photocells, Limit Sensors etc.
Competent in troubleshooting electrical issues using schematic diagrams on a variety of equipment.
Skill in proficient computer usage
Able to communicate clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing
Able to work in collaboration effectively and foster good teamwork
Able to follow directions and meet deadlines
Able to perform all required preventative, productive, predictive, and scheduled maintenance procedures
Able to perform task and duties without constant supervision
Able to understand the basic types of controls used in the plant and how they affect the process
Able to perform minor electrical work (i.e. change pump motors and diagnose motor control problems)
Able to use standard maintenance tools
Able to perform routine repairs and minor projects from planning to installation
Able to perform routine preventive maintenance on a variety of equipment, identify any abnormal conditions, and maintain appropriate records
Able to perform basic welding for repair and fabrication (mig/tig/stick)
Able to follow process control computer variables, schematics, and diagnose system problems
Able to assist other mechanics on more complicated repairs in a safe and useful manner
Must be able to read, write, and speak English
