Job Description Summary

The GEH New Plants Sourcing Manager is responsible for leading a team that will develop and implement a comprehensive supply chain strategy in support of GE Hitachi Nuclear Energy’s new nuclear power plant business. In close partnership with new plants leadership, the Sourcing Manager will drive new plant sourcing strategy and supplier development while optimizing total product cost, purchased component schedules, and business risk. Responsibilities include interface with suppliers, partners, regulators and customers.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Lead execution of GEH’s sourcing strategy for newly proposed commercial nuclear reactors.

  • Manage 25-person team, including People Leaders and direct reports; promote team morale, diversity, involvement/ownership; encourage excellence in compliance, customer service, safety, quality and productivity.

  • Ensure robust supply chains are in place to meet all project deliverables.

  • Partner with New Plant Projects leaders, Engineering and project managers to define and optimize supply chains for key components and commodities in support of new nuclear plant designs. Ensure focus on “design for cost” and “design for manufacturability” .

  • Create a framework for supplier and supply chain selection that can be leveraged across projects and commodities. Implement a common supplier evaluation and supply chain vetting process.

  • Mitigate supply chain risks through the creation of risk management strategies and lessons learned (LL) protocols.

  • Develop strategies to manage exposure from commodities and foreign exchange for project components and services.

  • Drive a culture of continuous improvement through Lean Manufacturing and further the business’s strategic imperatives.

  • Utilize Lean problem-solving method to address safety, quality, delivery and cost issues.

  • Integrate with broader GE Sourcing teams to drive maximum benefit.

  • Develop and achieve all financial and operational sourcing targets.

  • Deliver on project cost, fulfillment, and quality goals.

  • Develop or strengthen supplier partner relationships.

  • Ensure supplier compliance with regulatory and reputation requirements.

  • Interface with customers as required; ensure sourcing efforts fulfill key customer requirements.

  • Interface with regulators as required.

  • Support the development of sourcing operations and leadership talent and depth.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a Technical or Business curriculum.

  • At least 7 years of professional or military experience in sourcing, new nuclear project management, finance, commercial, technical or equivalent discipline.

  • At least 3 years of sourcing experience.

  • At least 2 years of experience in a managerial leadership role.

Eligibility Requirements

  • Ability and willingness to travel up to 25% of the time as required.

  • This role is restricted to U.S. persons (i.e., U.S. citizens, permanent residents, and other protected individuals under the Immigration and Naturalization Act, 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3)) due to access to U.S. export-controlled technology. GE will require proof of U.S. person status prior to employment.

  • The required work location for this role is at the GEH Headquarters in Wilmington, NC.

Desired Characteristics

  • Engineering or other technical degree; Master’s Degree in business / engineering.

  • Experience working with customers, regulators and suppliers.

  • Strong leader capable of working successfully in matrix organization, as part of a cross-functional team to drive impactful results.

  • In-depth knowledge of the disciplines of sourcing management, including strong negotiation skills, contracts knowledge, and supplier development / management, quality systems, ‘should-cost’ and fulfillment metrics.

  • International and/or procurement experience.

  • Sourcing experience in a high technology and/or highly regulated industry

  • Demonstrated ability to develop, contract and implement multi-year global supply agreements.

  • Demonstrated ability to establish a vision and direction for Commercial Sourcing Organization.

  • Experience leading in a lean organization, with KPI/metrics to drive continuous improvement. Lean trained with demonstrated ability to apply tools and process rigor.

  • Strong interpersonal skills; inclusive leadership style; proven ability to build and motivate a strong team.

  • Strong organizational skills; demonstrated ability to manage multiple complex situations and drive projects to completion, including cost and schedule control.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.

  • Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Suite and Oracle Enterprise Resources Planning System (ERP) systems.

  • Lean and/or Six Sigma certification. Experience leading in a lean organization, with KPI/metrics to drive continuous improvement. Lean trained with demonstrated ability to apply tools and process rigor.

  • CPM and/or APICS certification.

  • GE Program graduate, e.g., EEDP, OMLP (GE employees only).
