Brief Summary of Work for this Position

The

HVAC Mechanic is responsible for maintenance, troubleshoo ing, installation, and repair of all phases of

HVAC; refrigeration; condenser, chill water, and hot water piping, pumps, and associated controls and will be required to use electronic devices such as computers, tablets, and smart phones. *This position has been designated as mandatory personnel for the University and may be required to report to work during adverse weather conditions, even though the University may be operating on an alternate schedule. This position may assist with snow, ice and/or debris removal under the direction of a supervisor.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

High school diploma or equivalency; or demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work.

Preferred education, professional skills and experience

  • 5 years of field experience in the mechanical and/or HVAC trades
  • Higher education and/or experience in Facilities Maintenance or graduation from HVAC/Refrigeration trade school
  • Graduated from a Certified HVAC Program
  • Working knowledge of electrical, refrigeration, heating, air conditioning ventilation, pneumatic and electric controls; familiarity with Building Management Systems ( BMS), particularly in Direct Digital Control ( DDC); and ability to operate personal computer-based software to check building and equipment functions, identify trends, and generate user programs to accomplish specific requirements

Required Certifications or licensure

  • Employee must possess a valid North Carolina driver's license, or be able to obtain one within two weeks of hiring
  • Must obtain EPA CFC certification for refrigerant recovery within 1 year of hire
