Maintenance Foreman -Instrument

Job Summary

The Marathon Carson California Refinery has an opening for a Maintenance Foreman -Instrument. The Foreman will improve and maintain the reliability of refinery instrumentation. This position assists in troubleshooting complex instrumentation issues; provides support to field technicians; conducts investigations into instrumentation failures and presents findings; coordinates shop repair of equipment, leads, mentors, trains and coaches technicians; manages the regulatory compliance of Greenhouse Gas instrumentation calibration; coordinates IPF and SIS testing; updates IPF and maintenance procedures, coordinates the execution of turnaround instrumentation scope; and champions safety in the Maintenance Organization. The schedule for the position is Monday- Thursday - 10 hour days ( approximately sometime between - 6 AM - 5 PM), after hours calls are required 2 weeks a year, additional off hour support, that can be handled by phone, occurs several times a month and support TAR once to twice a year.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage work groups. Lead, mentor, train and coach technicians.

  • Assist the team with the oversight and technical performance of field technicians.

  • Manage certification of technician PPE. Deliver craft requalification assessments.

  • Provide technical support to field technicians.

  • Identify and coordinate repairs to be performed by off-site repair shops. Coordinate shop repair work. Coordinate emergency work.

  • Assist with work order backlog review and mitigation.

  • Submits craft availability hours for scheduling.

  • Identify and coordinate onsite repairs by an outside service provider. Coordinate major maintenance and repairs

  • Identify, investigate and resolve instrumentation reliability issues.

  • Review PM plans to ensure frequency, plan steps and hours are correct and modify as necessary.

  • Complete Intelex assignments, incident investigations / action items /MOCs, on time.

  • Assist with compliance with the refinery’s mechanical integrity program.

  • Review engineering packages.

  • Assist in initial job walks to develop scope. Assist in TAR scope development.

  • Assist the Planner and Materials Coordinator to manage warehouse stock. Identify obsolete stock, identify necessary quantity changes,

  • Identify new or upgraded parts to be added to stock.

  • Manage calibration and certification of test equipment. Track GHG calibration completion.

  • Maintain and update IPF procedures. Coordinate IPF testing. Manage IPF completion schedule

  • Review and update maintenance procedures. Review procedures with technicians

  • Participate in Shop Audits, Unit Safety Walks and participates in zone morning meetings.

Education, Experience and Skills

Minimum Qualifications

  • Must have a high school diploma or GED. (Education must be obtained/completed prior to start date)

  • Must have at least 5 years of instrument crafts experience in a refinery, petro-chemical or other related heavy industry. Maintenance Instrumentation knowledge and experience is required.

  • Must be able to wear appropriate PPE in the refinery (respirator), be able to physically perform all tasks in the field and take hair drug test and physical.

  • Must be legally authorized to work in the US without the need for future VISA sponsorship.

  • Travel is not requirement.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Proficient in Microsoft: Word, Excel and Outlook is preferred.

  • A valid driver’s license is preferred. (MPC determines valid status.)

  • Maintenance experience in refinery and/or petrochemical facility is preferred.

  • Prior leadership experience is preferred.
