This position exists to provide civil engineering leadership, technical guidance and apply engineering skills to ensure all the delivery of programmed design projects. Responsible for overall design quality by maintaining appropriate QA/QC for the design process, assure technical competency of staff, project assignments and establish a high level of technical competence across the staff. Provide technical direction and guidance to assist District 8 Project Managers and Engineers in the Design portion of the projects. Review detailed construction plans to ensure proper program execution and compliance with MnDOT, state and federal procedures, practices, regulations, and standards.

This position exists to provide professional engineering leadership and direction to the design and development of construction plans for District 8. The purpose of this position is also to serve as and recommend solutions and to serve as a Project/Consultant Manager and lead the development of transportation projects.

This vacancy is being posted at two levels; only one position will be filled. The levels are Engineer Senior and Engineer 2 Graduate. The class and starting salary are dependent on the successful applicant’s qualifications.

Minimum Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications - Engineer Senior:

· Applicants must be licensed as a Professional Civil Engineer with the Minnesota Board of Architecture, Engineering, Land Surveying, Landscape Architecture, Geoscience and Interior Design (AELSLAGID) or ability to obtain licensure through reciprocity. (If obtaining licensure through reciprocity, a practice pending letter from AELSLAGID must be provided to MnDOT HR prior to starting employment.)

Minimum Qualifications - Engineer 2 Graduate:

To qualify for Engineer 2 Graduate, applicants must meet all the following:

· A Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Construction Engineering from an ABET accredited college or university or its equivalency as rated by NCEES/EAC.

· A passing score on the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam.

· Two years post-graduation civil engineering work.

OR

· A Master’s degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET accredited college or university or it’s equivalency as rated by NCEES/EAC AND

· A passing score on the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam

· One (1) year of post-graduate civil engineering work.

OR

· Received a passing score on the Minnesota Principals & Practices of Civil Engineering (PE) Exam.

Required for both the Engineer Senior and Engineer 2 Graduate levels:

· Experience using Windows based operating systems, spreadsheet and word-processing software applications.

· Project management skills sufficient to lead and train staff in managing design workload, scope and schedule.

Preferred Qualifications

· Experience using Microstation, Geopak or related design and project management software.

· Knowledge of scoping documents, environmental documentation, design concepts, geometric layouts, construction, plan content and organization related to the development and design of highway transportation projects.

· Experience using Microsoft Project and/or Primavera P6 scheduling software.

· Knowledge of MnDOT policies, procedures, HPDP, ADA requirements, Geometric Design Standards, MnDOT Specifications, as well as State and Federal statute and regulatory requirements.
