Provides clerical and technical laboratory support to enable the forensic laboratories to function effectively while adhering to standard operating procedures and safety guidelines. Will assume the role of an Evidence Technician (20001521) as needed and will adhere to objectives of that position.

Provides clerical support to the forensic laboratories

Enters case information into a database(s) to initiate a link between the pathology case and the new toxicology case

Initiates paperwork for post-mortem cases submitted to the Toxicology Laboratory, including chain-of-custody documentation, and generates a case file folder for scientific staff to use during analysis

Enters case information into a database(s) for all forensic laboratories so that the data can be used for management and supervisory reports

Types forensic casework reports according to the information contained in case file records following the completion of analysis

File chain-of-custody documents and/or other case-related paperwork for the various scientific disciplines

Assists with preparation of laboratory records for archival to salt mines

Provides technical laboratory support to the forensic laboratories\ Receives autopsy evidence from the pathology division\ Properly labels autopsy specimens received by assigning case and item numbers to each exhibit\ Bags toxicology specimens for long term storage following completion of analysis\ Disposes of toxicology specimens and any associated physical evidence per SOP

Assumes the role of Evidence Technician (position number 20001521) as needed and adheres to that positions primary and secondary job functions:\ Performs evidence exchanges from contributing law enforcement agents while maintaining chain-of-custody\ Receives forensic evidence from contributing agencies\ Reviews the submission documents, packaging seals and labels for proper marking and information\ Labels and/or tags the received evidence with a RFSC case number\ Assigns storage locations within the evidence vault according to standard operating procedures\ Documents pertinent information on the chain-of-custody documents\ Releases examined evidence along with the associated forensic case report and restitution orders\ Performs evidence exchanges internally with scientific staff while maintaining chain-of-custody\ Exchanges evidence with RFSC scientific staff\ Receive casework reports from scientific staff and prepares for return of evidence to the contributing agencies\ Enters into a database(s) information of when the evidence was picked up by a scientist so that evidence processing could be monitored by management\ Enters data into database(s) to provide record of receipt of the evidence from contributing law enforcement agencies.\ Information is entered into a database(s) to assign a case number to each item received\ Generates evidence labels and places on each item received prior to storage\ Generates case files for the forensic laboratories and marks them according to analysis type requested

Minimum Qualifications as defined by classification High school diploma or equivalent.

Preferred Qualifications: Associates degree or bachelors degree in a science or criminal justice. Six months experience in a laboratory setting, or any combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. IAPE Certified Evidence Specialist or equivalent.
