Description

JOB SUMMARY:

Data Engineers build and maintain data systems in support of data analytics and data science activities. The Data Engineer will implement methods to improve data reliability, data quality, and ensure success in data-driven initiatives.

This position within Manufacturing Engineering - Data, Governance and Training, is responsible for identifying, developing, and executing solutions that support reliable and efficient extraction of data from source systems and loading of that data into analytic and web tool platforms. The Data Engineer will help administer data platforms and consult with Manufacturing Engineering on process optimization and data quality improvements.

Qualifications

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Gain core business understanding of Textron Aviation and aircraft design, operation, and support

  • Query, clean, transform, and stage data (ETL/ELT) across on-prem and cloud environments

  • Support data analytics and data science activities by implementing, maintaining, and optimizing production ready data pipelines

  • Install and update software to ensure data platform continuity

  • Administer a CI/CD compliant code repository during development and update activities

  • Research and help implement new technologies to support analytics function

  • Interface with other data professionals throughout the organization to embrace cross functional growth in analytics capabilities

  • Work to improve data quality by assisting data governance efforts in creating and maintaining data quality standards

  • Plan and execute projects according to established milestones and schedules

  • Train users in data & analytic tools and processes per best practices and compliance standards

  • Contribute to the resolution of service tickets pertaining to data infrastructure

  • Serve as an internal consultant to business leaders by advising on system capabilities

EDUCATION/ EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Data Science/Analytics, MIS, or other related technical field

  • Minimum 2 years relevant technical experience required, focused on data collection, utilization, and analysis.

  • Aviation experience preferred

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Excellent oral, interpersonal, and written communication skills

  • Strong programming skills in SQL (other OOP languages also preferred)

  • Familiarity with Python, Java, or other OOP languages

  • Ability to create and schedule data pipelines (i.e., Apache Airflow, Azure Data Factory, etc.)

  • Experience with on-premises data warehouses and/or data lakes (i.e., Oracle, SQL Server, SAP HANA etc.)

  • Experience with cloud data lake/warehouse tech (i.e., Azure, Databricks, AWS, Snowflake, etc.)

  • Familiarity with big data parallel processing frameworks such as Apache Hadoop, Spark, Dask, is preferred

  • Linux and Windows OS experience including the command line

  • Experience with server and software administration

  • Comfortable with CI/CD processes in Github, Azure DevOps, etc.

  • Familiar with software development lifecycle, including waterfall, agile, and DevOps methodologies

  • Action oriented and seizes opportunities

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

  • Quickly grasps new concepts when faced with unfamiliar tasks

  • Professional and diplomatic demeanor
