The Medical Technologist II performs routine clinical and/or histological laboratory work that involves performing medical testing procedures and reporting the results for evaluation, diagnosis, and/or treatment. Works under moderate supervision, with limited latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgement. This position may also be eligible to earn additional pay for work performed on maximum security locations.Essential Job FunctionsAttends work on a regular and predictable schedule in accordance with agency leave policy and performs other duties as assigned.Performs medical and clinical laboratory testing as ordered by a physician; performs and interprets low/high volume medical screening, confirmatory or diagnostic tests; is over the laboratory equipment including cleaning, preventative maintenance, inspections, and repairs; assists in reviewing clinical laboratory reports for correctness and accuracy; assists in developing policies and procedures for processing specimens to ensure the accuracy of results; proper handling and disposal of hazardous materials; documents and distributes reports per agency standards.Supervises Medical Technologists and Laboratory techs and ensures that work is completed in a safe, timely manner. Provides supervision of the laboratory on both campuses; ensures that staff know what the expectations are.Ensures that the laboratory staff accounts for and boxes up all the biomedical waste per the agencies infection control policy and procedures.Maintains the inventory of glucometers across both campuses; troubleshoots the machines when error occur; provides the glucometer supplies to the units as needed.Performs other duties as assigned. Other duties as assigned include but are not limited to actively participating and/or serving in a supporting role to meet the agencyand#146;s obligations for disaster response and/or recovery or Continuity of Operations (COOP) activation. Such participation may require an alternate shift pattern assignment and/or location.Registrations, Licensure Requirements or CertificationsMust be registered as a Medical Technologist, histotechnician, or a clinical laboratory scientist.Must meet the Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA) regulations as testing personnel. Knowledge Skills AbilitiesKnowledge of medical technology or histology concepts and practices, and of clinical or histological laboratory methods and procedures.Skilled in the use of laboratory equipment including computerized instruments and laboratory information management systems.Ability to conduct clinical or histological laboratory tests to determine deterioration or change in specimen and reagent quality; communicate effectively.
