Assistant Deputy Director-Operations Description The Assistant Deputy Director is responsible for the daily management of the functions of the DPW Operations Division such as Highways and Streets, vehicle maintenance, Sanitary Sewer Distribution and the City\'s drainage system. Employee is required to perform all similar or related duties.Work is reviewed by the Director for overall program effectiveness through observation, written and oral reports, external technical reviews conducted by regulatory agencies or technical consultants, and conferences. Assists, plans, assigns and directs activities and coordinates personnel to achieve planned tasks or projects including snow and ice control, maintenance of flood and levee control systems and structures; maintenance of equipment; cleaning and rehabilitation of City streets, highways, storm drainage systems; maintenance and care of the refuse removal operations for solid waste. Assists in timesheet maintenance of operations personnel through the Town\'s electronic timekeeping system Oversees the maintenance of an inventory of materials necessary for the effective operation and of the Operations division; orders or arranges for the ordering of necessary supplies and equipment. Assists in the recruitment, interview and selection of department personnel. Assists in the development of bid specifications for department equipment and/or supplies in accordance with the state procurement laws, Assists with preparation of the annual operating and capital budgets for operations, and administers the same for compliance with approved spending plans in accordance with Town and State guidelines and practices. Receives work orders and complaints, and analyzes the same for the appropriate action needed to address these matters; discusses problems with customers and takes appropriate actions. Assists in the review and comments on the impact of public and private development proposals on department operations; inspects public and private site development construction work to ensure compliance with City requirements. Communicates and coordinates activities, as needed, with consulting engineers, contractors, other inter-municipal agencies, and other governmental agencies. Prepares required reports for submission to Federal State and local agencies including those agencies regulating the sanitary, sewer, storm sewer and flood protection systems. Prepares specialized reports for various purposes including the analysis of trends and various data; schedule of work; and in the operational matters in order to develop and implement more effective methods of system operation and service. Attends public meetings and meetings with citizens\' boards and commissions to provide advice, assistance, and information on Departmental matters. Promotes and maintains responsive community relations Performs other related duties as assigned. Qualifications Recommended Minimum Qualifications: Education and Experience: Graduate of a two year college with an Associate\'s degree with five (5) years related work experience; or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job. Special Requirements: Valid Class D Motor Vehicle Drivers License
