Monmouth UniversityLecturer, World Languages & CulturesDepartment: World Languages and CulturesPosition Summary:Monmouth University invites applications for a Lecturer of Spanish in the Department of World Languages and Cultures. This position is for the 2025-2026 academic year and is a two-year appointment with the possibility of subsequent multi-year reappointments.Applications will be accepted until the position is filled, but priority will be given to applications received on or before February 14, 2025.Responsibilities will include teaching 12 credits per semester of undergraduate courses in Spanish language and Hispanic literatures and cultures, coordination of a multi-section Spanish language course, and advising students in the major. We are seeking a Ph.D. or ABD in Spanish, Hispanic Studies, Literature or a related field, with expertise in Afro-Hispanic Studies. We seek a teacher-scholar with demonstrated excellence in undergraduate instruction and an established research program. The candidate must also have an interest in collaborating with the minor in African Diaspora Studies. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to develop and teach a course with the Systemic Inequalities and Anti-Racism General Education designation.Candidates must submit a portfolio that demonstrates a record of teaching effectiveness and scholarship. The portfolio will include a representative sample of peer observations, student course evaluations, syllabi, philosophy of teaching, a statement of commitment to DEIJB, and a list of courses they have already taught or are prepared to teach.The Department of World Languages and Cultures offers undergraduate degrees in Spanish, Spanish and Communication, and Spanish and Education (primary and secondary), as well as Minors in Spanish, Spanish for Business, and Italian. The department hosts chapters of the Spanish and Italian National Honor Societies, and our faculty advises the Spanish Club and the Italian Club, both active student groups on campus. We are home to Nuestros sonidos latinos, an award-winning, student-run Spanish-language radio show.
