Job Summary:

The Lead CMM Mechanical Programmer will be responsible for writing and editing Calypso programs within RPO’s Zeiss CMM according to blueprint dimensions, engineering drawings, new designs, and will also analyze inspection reports with quality engineers and program managers. This individual will work with other inspectors to perform Receiving, In-process and Final Inspection of mechanical and other optical components and assemblies. This individual will be expected to train and assist others in learning proficient Calypso programming skills and smooth operation of the Zeiss CMM.

Summary of Essential Job Duties:

  • Develop and implement CMM programs using Calypso software to inspect complex opto-mechanical components.

  • Perform precise and detailed measurements using CMM equipment to verify the conformance of machined parts to engineering specifications.

  • Interpret and analyze engineering blueprints, technical drawings, and specifications to develop accurate CMM programs.

  • Collaborate with quality inspectors and engineers to ensure that products meet quality standards and customer requirements.

  • Plan and execute inspection routines, including fixture design and setup, to facilitate efficient and accurate inspections.

  • Analyze measurement data and generate detailed reports, identifying any non-conformities and collaborating with engineering and production teams for corrective actions.

  • Use the CMM and other standard tools to evaluate and inspect mechanical and other parts for acceptance.

  • Perform routine maintenance on CMM equipment to ensure optimal functionality and accuracy.

  • Perform Receiving, In-Process and Final Inspection of opto-mechanical parts.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • 5+ years’ experience with Calypso CMM programming required. (Editing and Writing)

  • 5+ years’ experience with Mechanical part inspection required (Open Plate Layout).

  • Ability to train co-workers on sound CMM programming methods and practices.

  • Strong understanding of GD&T methodologies.

  • Ability to use hand measuring tools such as micrometers, calipers, drop gages, thread gages, etc.

  • Ability to work with a great deal of independence.

  • Good team player.

Requirements and Competencies:

Language Skills:

  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret part drawings, specifications and standards. Ability to communicate effectively to team members and management.

Mathematical Skills:

  • Ability to apply mathematical concepts such as algebra, geometry and trigonometry.

Educational Requirements:

  • High School diploma or GED.

  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. May involve prolonged periods of magnified inspection (eye strain)

  • Requires good hand-eye coordination, arm, hand and finger dexterity, including ability to grasp.

  • The employee is frequently required to use the computer.

Work Environment:

  • May involve the use of oils and solvents.

  • Subject to some soilage and irritation from cleaning solutions. (Lab Coats provided)

  • Generally works in a clean environment and works to maintain the environment as such.

  • Safety Glasses are required

  • May require area specific safety training

  • This position works in a manufacturing environment. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.

  • The employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts and fumes or airborne paper particles.

  • May work at different workstations as production needs require, or shifts from one station to another, during the production process.
