UPMC Security Officer SUS in Wellsboro, Pennsylvania

Purpose:

Provides a safe and secure environment for patients, visitors and employees. Protects hospital assets and confidential information.

Responsibilities:

Identify processes/systems that could lead to inefficient practices, unsafe conditions, errors or adverse events. Avoid shortcuts to ensure quality and safety measures are not circumvented. Encourage patient and family involvement in processes involving patient safety. Speak up with other service partners to ensure high quality and safety. Report serious events/incidents per policy.

  • Responds to inquiries for advice, assistance or service from patients, visitors and employees, prioritizing calls based upon urgency. Follows through with all calls, updating callers, when possible, to explain delays.

  • Maintains confidentiality in all oral and written communication, ensuring that privileged information/records are appropriately transmitted/protected/noted to exclude the attention of those not directly involved, promptly reporting violations of confidentiality.

  • Reports any situation or problem which could potentially adversely affect the moral, integrity/credibility of UPMC Susquehanna

  • Ensures accessibility, operability and the presence of safety equipment throughout assigned work areas (exits, fire extinguishers, pull stations, etc.)

  • Completes comprehensive patrols of assigned hospital buildings and grounds to prevent fire and accidents, vandalism, theft, loitering and other crimes, identifying and reporting any hazards.

  • Monitors the conduct of visitors on hospital premises. Confronts unauthorized persons for questioning, as needed. Participates in investigations if necessary.

  • Assists in the handling/restraining of unruly or violent individuals applying, approved restraint techniques

  • Escorts patients, visitors and employees to parking lots and hospital buildings, as needed. Controls parking and traffic flow, enforcing parking regulations.

High School diploma or equivalent preferred. High level of integrity required for handling sensitive/confidential UPMC information. Must possess strong interpersonal skills, especially the ability to effectively interact, communicate, and diffuse potential combative situations with persons from all walks of life. Psychological fitness required to deal with stress and potentially dangerous conflict situations. Physical fitness requirements to deal with typical physical demands that require full body motion and physical strength and stamina sufficient to respond to crisis interventions and medical emergencies. Be able to effectively communicate both orally and in written format. Good interpersonal skills; able to deal with stress and potentially dangerous conflict situations. All applicants will be subject to a thorough background and criminal record check Must be available for all shifts Officers are required to wear a bullet proof vest. Employees covered by a collective bargaining agreement should consult the applicable collective bargaining for specific requirements.

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:

Act 235 with Firearms OR Act 235 without Firearms - All officers hired without a valid Act 235 must complete the 235 certifications within their first 180 days of employment. Must meet audio and visual standards outlined in Act 235 at time of hire. Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation? certification required within 30 days of hire. Valid Driver's License Successfully pass UPMC Physical Fitness Standard prior to hire.
