AWS Sales, Marketing, and Global Services (SMGS) is responsible for driving revenue, adoption, and growth from the largest and fastest growing small- and mid-market accounts to enterprise-level customers including public sector. The AWS Global Support team interacts with leading companies and believes that world-class support is critical to customer success. AWS Support also partners with a global list of customers that are building mission-critical applications on top of AWS services.

Amazon Web Services (AWS) is looking for a Solutions Architect to work with our public sector customers to guide cloud-based solutions that help them transform their organisation into an innovative, competitive and disruptive entity.

At AWS, customer obsession is in our DNA. As a trusted advisor to your customers, you will be responsible for articulating their broad AWS cloud strategy and navigating their cloud journey. You will be working collaboratively with AWS sales, business development, solutions architecture, support, services, and product teams to craft highly scalable, performant and resilient cloud architectures that address the customer’s business requirements and accelerate the adoption of AWS services.

This is a customer facing role, so you must be comfortable speaking and influencing senior stakeholders and be a trusted advisor to both internal and external audiences. You will have experience in architecting solutions across a wide variety of platforms and solutions spaces with specific recommendations on topics such as hardware performance, clustering and load balancing, DevOps, HA/DR, networking & data architectures. At AWS, you’ll evolve modern architectures based on advanced concepts like AI, Machine Learning, Serverless, NoSQL, IoT and robotics to influence the art of the possible. Couple all that with a baseline knowledge of, or even certification in, AWS, and this role is made for you!

Key job responsibilities

  • Own the technical engagement and ultimate success around specific business initiatives and projects. You should understand the wider industry, with experience and skill in how applications and services are delivered and consumed.

  • Develop a deep expertise in AWS technologies.

  • Consult on and provide leadership for the broad AWS cloud strategy in NZ public sector organisations. You will help customers articulate and navigate their cloud journey, and be accountable for ensuring tactical activities and point projects are align with the overall technical strategy.

  • Own technical engagements, and help ensure a timely and successful delivery of value. This is not a hands-on delivery role; delivery is typically done by AWS consultants and partners.

  • Exhibit leadership within a very sophisticated IT landscape and become the trusted adviser to different stakeholders in the customer’s organisation’s hierarchy. Enable others to become cloud champions!

  • Be a thought leader, comfortable with speaking in public. Conduct one-to-few and one-to-many sessions to transfer knowledge to customers considering or already using AWS.

  • Capture and share best-practice knowledge amongst the AWS architecture community, including authoring or otherwise contributing to AWS customer-facing assets such as whitepapers, blogs, code, and sample architectures.

  • Act as a technical liaison between customers, engineering teams and support.

  • Demonstrate the "art of the possible" using demonstrations and proof-of-concept code.

Basic Qualifications

  • 4+ years of specific technology domain areas (e.g. software development, cloud computing, systems engineering, infrastructure, security, networking, data & analytics) experience

  • 2+ years of design, implementation, or consulting in applications and infrastructures experience

  • 4+ years of IT development or implementation/consulting in the software or Internet industries experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working within software development or Internet-related industries

  • Experience migrating or transforming legacy customer solutions to the cloud

  • Experience working with AWS technologies from a dev/ops perspective
