Gun Lake Casino Community & Public Relations Coordinator in Wayland, Michigan

Position Summary:

Perform responsibilities in accordance with all Company standards, policies, and procedures. Responsible in the planning, preparation, communication, execution and reporting of community, special and public events for Gun Lake Casino. Responsible for representing Gun Lake Casino in beneficial media outlets, community activities such as sponsorships, donations, and community events.

In this Role:

  • Responsible for always practicing, supporting, and promoting Gun Lake Casino’s “Unsurpassed Service Standards.”

  • Maintain a high level of personal integrity on and off duty.

  • Practice teamwork, support fellow Team Members, and create an energized, positive, team-oriented work environment.

  • Interact with Guests in a friendly and courteous manner and handle all Guest opportunities.

  • Must be able to effectively communicate both written and verbally with Guests, Team Members, and Management.

  • Responsible for planning, preparation, communication, execution, reporting of community and public outreach programs, special events and community and public events for Gun Lake Casino held both on, and off-property.

  • Responsible for building and maintaining rapport with employee, public interest groups, various members of the community such as local businesses, civic groups, schools, media, and non-profit organizations.

  • Responsible for planning publicity strategies and campaigns.

  • Writing and distributing a regular schedule of press releases and news pitches designed to promote the Company’s products, services, and community involvement.

  • Handling all media inquiries promptly, effectively, and courteously.

  • Plan and design programs that will both help the local community and promote the image of Gun Lake Casino in a positive way.

  • Prepare, manage, and execute a strategic communication plan for the company through internal and external avenues.

  • Publish timely company information, such as memos and company directives.

  • Ensure communication strategy is consistent and reflects the vision of Gun Lake Casino.

  • Refine core messaging to ensure organizational consistency in all aspects of communication including development, organizing and education.

  • Monitor local and regional news outlets to keep up on news, trends, competition, and public view of casino.

  • Maintain excellent grooming and uniform standards.

  • All other duties as assigned.

Essential Qualifications:

  • Must be at least 21 years of age.

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university with an emphasis in public relations, marketing, advertising, English, writing, communications, or journalism.

  • Two years or more of public/community relations required.

  • One or more years of experience in promotions, event marketing or guest services required.

  • Work experience in the gaming or hospitality industry is preferred.

  • Strong understanding of Microsoft Office Suite with the ability to learn new computer programs quickly.

  • Proven ability to communicate effectively with Guests, Team Members, Management, and Media, both in written and verbal form, with or without a microphone.

  • Demonstrated ability to plan, organize, and complete work logically and independently.

  • Well-developed interpersonal skills.

  • Proven ability to set and achieve high standards of performance.

  • Proven ability to make progress and/or handle multiple assignments under time constraints.

  • Available and willing to regularly work flexible shifts including nights, holidays and weekends.

  • Must obtain a Gun Lake Tribal Gaming License

Physical Requirements:

  • Requires normal, corrective vision range, the ability to see color, and the ability to distinguish letters, numbers, and symbols.

  • Must have the manual dexterity to operate job-related equipment.

  • Ability to sit, walk, stand, run, and climb stairs for the duration of shift.

  • Must have the ability to access all properties and areas.

  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. with or without assistance.

  • Ability to read, write and input data into the computer.

  • Ability to stoop, crouch and kneel.

Work Conditions:

Work is typically in an office environment or out on the casino floor. Work areas may be warm, cold, or noisy. Tasks may be required to perform from a sitting or non-sitting position in a confined area. Team Members may be required to stand, walk, lift, reach, push, pull, and grasp.
