Customs and Border Protection Supervisory Psychologist in Washington, District Of Columbia

Summary Organizational Location: This position is with the Department of Homeland Security, within U.S. Customs and Border Protection, Enterprise Services, Immediate Office of the Executive Assistant Commissioner, Workforce Care Directorate, located in Washington, DC. Responsibilities In this position, you will serve as a psychological health subject matter expert of Workforce Operations Division (WOD), providing insight and recommendations to the Executive Director (XD), Workforce Care Directorate (WCD) and others within WCD on CBP strategic planning, policy and program development, stakeholder engagements, research development, interagency collaborations, legislative affairs, professional ethics, and strategic communications. This position starts at a salary of $163,964.00 (GS-15, Step 1) to $191,900.00 (GS-15, Step 10). Typical duties include: Overseeing training provided to CBP personnel (employees and supervisors) including but not limited to psychological resilience, psychological readiness, stress/trauma/burnout, mental health stigma and other barriers to care/engagement, and suicide. Overseeing strategic planning and partnering across CBP program offices, DHS components and interagency working groups, supporting organizational goals, setting requirements, and advance standardization of psychological health practices in CBP. Initiating and evaluating scientific studies for CBP employees that may correlate to suicides, interpersonal and targeted violence, insider threat, other psychological health and safety issues and risk management, psychological safety, in an effort to identify trends and patterns to proactively intervene, reduce maladaptive behaviors, and security risks. Overseeing the implementation of the Commissioner's Resiliency strategic vision for critical joint traumatic incident and events response (TIER) team activities. Qualifications Basic Requirement: You must provide supporting documentation in your application to show you meet the basic requirement below. Satisfactory completion of full 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's or higher degree that included a major field of study (or equivalent) in Psychology. You qualify for this position if you possess one year of specialized experience or substitution of education, if applicable, as described below and meet the basic requirement listed above. Experience: You qualify for the GS-15 grade level if you possess 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level, performing duties such as: Applying behavioral, clinical and organizational psychology to develop and implement programs, tools and resources that are relevant and practical for employees and management to use in response to organizational needs. Consulting with leaders to advise on strategic, operational and tactical approaches to organizational problems using evidence-based design to devise workable solutions and action plans. Managing projects in the areas of programs, training, practices, and metrics that boost organizational health and cohesion, leaders' capabilities, and employee engagement, resilience, and wellness via best-practices. Conducting training and teaching skills to leaders and employees in the areas of behavioral health and wellness/resilience and organizational behavior management. Supervisory Probationary Period: You may be required to serve an 18-month probationary period upon appointment. Leadership Training: All newly appointed GS-15s are required to complete mandatory training. The training will be scheduled by the Office of Training and Development within the first 90 days of appointment. The duration of the training will include for CBP LI five (5) weeks of in-residence training in Harpers Ferry, WV. Note: This training may be waived if previously completed.
