License/Certification Requirement: DC 1 st Class Engineer License required.
Responsibilities
The Chief Engineer position involves operations and maintenance planning, organizing, coordinating, and directing engineering staff.
Ensure all equipment is always fully operational and in compliance with GSA requirements, DC, federal codes/laws, rules and regulations.
Provide oversight to the operations of the Central Plants, associated equipment, building equipment, BAS, and other assigned duties
Oversees policies, procedures, protocols, and controls that govern operations.
Coordinates work of subcontractors needed for operations and preventative maintenance.
Supervisors Engineers assigned under this contract
Responsible for maintaining a strong, trained, and disciplined workforce.
Provide administrative and technical direction and supervision to staff in completing work assignments.
In consultation with the Project Manager make recommendations concerning the hiring, promotion, and termination of plant staff.
Advise, discuss, and inform Client Facilities Staff members on physical plant matters and problem areas.
Coordinates purchase of necessary supplies, equipment and services from appropriate sources and maintains proper inventory control, maintenance, and consumable supplies.
Maintains liaison with architects, engineers, and contractors/subcontractors engaged in renovation, or other major projects.
Maintains sufficient records, files, controls, and procedures to ensure management and work production.
Plans, organizes, coordinates, directs, and controls all aspects of facilities activities.
Works with the customer to find mutually satisfactory solutions to difficult issues.
Works with management systems and variety of skilled/unskilled, professional, administrative, and industry personnel.
Perform other tasks as directed by his supervisor.
Qualifications
DC 1st Class Operating Engineering license

14+ years' experience in facilities maintenance with a high school Diploma or GED is required.
Experience and knowledge of office administration, plant management, reporting, blueprints, buildings, equipment, housekeeping, construction, repair, maintenance, purchasing, inventory control, fire, safety management, and OSHA codes.
Perform other tasks as directed by his supervisor.
Abilities:
The position requires the ability to lift, carry, and move objects weighing up to [50 pounds] on a regular basis. Candidates must demonstrate physical strength and stamina to perform various tasks, including but not limited to, loading, and unloading, operating equipment, and assisting in the transportation of various materials. Proper lifting techniques and safety protocols must be followed to ensure personal and team safety.
Relocates a 12-foot stepladder without assistance.
Works at various heights up to 60 feet and can climb and maintain balance on scaffolds, aerial lifts, catwalks and all types of ladders.
Walks, climbs, lifts, squats, crawls, kneels, pushes, pulls and reaches overhead on a routine and repetitive basis.
Possess good vision (may be corrected vision), the ability to see in color, and the ability to hear and communicate in English.
May use a standard ladder without exceeding the weight limit while carrying tools.
