About the Opportunity

Jacobs acts as the Technical Advisor to PEJ Sp z.o.o. (PEJ), which is the state-owned entity responsible for delivering Poland’s nuclear power programme. Jacobs role is that of an “Owner’s Engineer”, which is not involved directly in any Nuclear Power Programme (NPP) design or construction activity, but rather acts as an advocate for the Client, applying technical due diligence to all aspects of the process, along with supply chain and contract management support for plant and equipment vendors engaged by the Client.

Jacobs fulfils this function through the delivery of engineering and technical packages of work (referred to as Service Authorisations (SA)) which require the development, approval, implementation and reporting of a diverse range of engineering and technical methods by suitably qualified and experienced team members.

In addition to the PEJ programme, Jacobs has positioned themselves as a key advisor to other developers emerging within the Poland Nuclear Power Programme.

The Senior Engineering Manager is appointed by the Engineering Director (ED), with the agreement of the relevant Project Managers to exercise Owners Engineering support to the Client within their discipline.

The role includes, through the relevant Engineering processes, the review and commenting of deliverables, and audit of the Clients documentation for completeness. In addition the role directly supports the Client in preparation of deliverables required for placement of an Engineering, Procurement, Construction (EPC) contract. Similarly, the role is responsible for the review and development of processes within their discipline and act as a champion for their discipline with the client.

In this role you are accountable to the relevant project Technical Lead for delivery of the required activities under the relevant SA’s and may act as Technical Lead for specific tasks. You'll have, within the context of the project constraints, the authority to support in any way that ensures the below responsibilities are delivered. Responsibilities:

  • Review and comment on deliverables within a particular discipline on behalf of the Client

  • Provide advice and guidance to the Client within their discipline

  • Support the PM and Technical Lead in the delivery of the relevant SA’s

  • Act as the Technical Lead where required

  • Support the Client in capability building

  • Provide assurance to the Client that all aspects of the engineering within a particular discipline have been carried to an acceptable standard

  • Liaise with other engineering areas to ensure best practice is applied with a common approach and specification where appropriate

  • Where the individual is deployed as an integrated person, the individual is to act in line with the Client’s instructions

Here’s what you’ll need :

  • Relevant higher education or time served equivalence in a suitable engineering discipline

  • Chartered professional or corporate membership of a relevant professional body / institution

  • Membership of an accredited Project Management Institute

  • Recognised project management qualifications

  • Experience of working within an EPC environment

  • Extensive experience of engineering management of a workstream, project or delivery area in an engineering / construction environment

  • Proven experience of preparation of technical specifications, tender assessment and quality planning

  • Significant experience of critically reviewing and appraising engineering documentation/specifications within a complex programme environment

  • Understanding of ISO / EU / PL / US design codes and standards

  • Experience of leading engineering activities within a complex environment

  • Demonstrable understanding of groundworks, geotechnical, and other site preparatory construction activities
