Job Description Summary

As a Combustion Aerothermal Engineer, you will apply fundamental design principles to ensure robust Gas Turbine combustion operability and bring reliable power to the people with lower emissions. In this role you will develop, test, and analyze combustion aerothermal designs. You will execute new combustion development and service projects, apply creativity to solve the problem and deliver the results on time in collaboration with team. Possibility to work in global environment with diverse teams at complex cross-functional organization. There is latitude to rearrange the sequence to complete task/duties based on changing work situations.

Job Description

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Applying fluid mechanics, combustion, and gas turbine fundamentals to support reliable operation and development of GT combustion systems with low emissions and wide operation window.

  • Predict and mitigate combustion instabilities using state of the art tools and experiments during the development of new combustion systems; Design combustion systems to meet program goals related to combustion system and overall gas turbine product requirements.

  • Lead and execute new Combustion system design and resolve fleet issues using sound engineering principles and adhering to the business standards, practices, procedures, and product/program requirements.

  • Apply combustion CFD (steady & unsteady) knowledge and work with CFD engineer to set up design iterations and optimize the aero design and present results to the review team

  • Develop 1D/3D flow models for the combustion system & conduct basic combustion aero design calculation, predictive combustion dynamics, emissions, and combustion performance modeling using 1D/3D tools

  • Lead combustion prototype testing at customer sites around the world and in GE’s on-site test facility, through test planning activities for efficient and thorough collection of necessary combustion data for full characterization of emissions, operability and combustion dynamics behavior

  • Work effectively within cross-functional – Mechanical, Controls, Accessories, and product service team for project execution.

  • Take an active role in the continuous improvement of processes and activities

  • Document technical data generated by the assigned project consistent with engineering policies and procedures

  • Guide and mentor less experienced team members

Required Qualifications

  • Master Degree in Engineering/Science with emphasis on Combustion & combustion modeling.

  • Significant and proven years of relevant engineering work experience

  • Engineering experience in combustion design and/or operability and/or services

  • Experience with running component/system testing in lab or field environment

  • Strong understanding of combustion, emissions, acoustics, and gas turbine technology

  • Fluent English skills

Desired Characteristics

  • Hands on experience in commissioning gas turbines with deep combustion operability trouble shooting.

  • Proficiency in programming languages, specifically Matlab, Python and demonstrated ability to process and work with hi speed data collection.

  • Ability to use advanced combustion dynamics and CFD models (1D-3D) to understand combustor behavior

  • Ability to conceive ideas to solve combustor aero operability design problems.

  • Understanding of GE Power product line and its combustion system.

  • Self-starter and ability to handle multiple projects
