General Motors Senior Software Engineer in Warren, Michigan
Job Description
Work Arrangement:
Hybrid: This role is categorized as hybrid. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to Warren, MI, Austin, TX, or Mountain View, CA, three times per week, at minimum.
The Role:
The perfect candidate for the Senior Software Engineering Generalist role will possess a diverse spectrum of capabilities, ranging from visionary thinking at the highest level down to the most intricate implementation details. As a Senior Software Engineering Generalist, you will seamlessly collaborate across engineering divisions, product teams, and various domains, making a profound impact on shaping the trajectory of GMs future.
In this influential role, you will make substantial, direct contributions to architecture, designs, and implementations, bolstering our capacity to effectively respond to the increasing demands of our business. This role extends to defining, driving, and championing standards, patterns, and best practices. They will provide invaluable guidance to product managers, SREs and engineering leaders, ensuring alignment of solution implementations with the ever-evolving industry standards.
Major Duties and Responsibilities
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Prior experience in developer-facing libraries or frameworks.
Swift learning in new domains and technical skills.
Consistent project completion within timelines and specifications.
Deep understanding of system-level development and core Software Engineering concepts.
Comfort navigating large, multi-project codebases.
Proficient in industry-standard software engineering processes.
Translate high-level feature requests into technical solutions.
Strong problem-solving and critical thinking abilities.
Passion for quality and meticulous attention to detail.
Expertise in architecting large-scale systems.
Experience with distributed systems and global technology roadmaps.
Proficiency in REST services, API platforms, ML applications, etc.
Familiarity with event-based systems and Microservices.
Experience in Hybrid Cloud Architecture and managed services.
Creation of shared services and reusable components.
Experience with cloud-based solutions.
Decision-making for scalable, reliable, and secure solutions.
Additional Job Description
Requirements:
Minimum 8+ years of professional software development experience
5+ years SQL experience
5+ years' experience in Big Data Technologies
Modern web technologies and working experience deploying packaged software solutions.
Demonstrated experience in the design and build of performance customer facing applications at scale.
Solid understanding of design patterns and software development best practices.
Experience working in an agile environment.
Tech Skills:
Java/Spring Boot, microservice architecture, cloud native application development
Containerization, Kubernetes, Docker
Postgres
Graph QL
React, Node, Angular
Apache Airflow (or other), Apache Pulsar/Kafka, NoSQL dbms.
Big Data Technologies – Hadoop, Hive, Cassandra, Spark, Python, Apache NiFi, Prometheus, Grafana
Data Integration platforms, tools, and techniques like Talend, DataStage, Spark, Apache NiFi, Ab Initio, Pentaho, etc.

Compensation : The compensation information is a good faith estimate only. It is based on what a successful applicant might be paid in accordance with applicable state laws. The compensation may not be representative for positions located outside of New York, Colorado, California, or Washington.
- The salary range for this role is 158,000 to 241,900. The actual base salary a successful candidate will be offered within this range will vary based on factors relevant to the position.
