Actalent Mechanical Designer in Warren, Michigan

Job Title: Mechanical Designer/DrafterJob Description

We are looking for a Mechanical Designer/Drafter to maintain CAD, product data management, and ERP/MRP systems. You will assist with designing and testing products and prototypes to meet desired expectations, document designs for product support, and generate bill of materials (BOM) for new products and sub-assemblies. You will interface with other departments to ensure effective communication and identify opportunities for product improvements and cost reductions.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain CAD, product data management, and ERP/MRP systems.

  • Assist with designing and testing products and prototypes to achieve desired expectations.

  • Document designs for product support and efficient development of successive product generations.

  • Generate bill of materials (BOM) for new products and/or sub-assemblies or options, as well as maintaining existing products.

  • Interface with other departments to ensure effective communications of new product development and continuing engineering activities.

  • Identify opportunities for product improvements and/or cost reductions.

  • Participate in workflows and implement design changes.

  • Execute work tasks in accordance with standard procedures.

  • Perform other job-related duties and special projects as assigned.

Essential Skills

  • Associate degree in Mechanical Design or a related field.

  • At least 1 year of mechanical design experience (machine design preferred).

  • Proficiency in SolidWorks.

  • Knowledge of GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing).

  • Ability to work effectively under pressure, be highly motivated, exercise good judgment, and maintain confidentiality.

  • Ability to interpret specifications and execute process improvements.

  • Excellent communication, leadership, problem-solving, organizational, training, and PC skills.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience in manufacturing mechanical equipment.

  • Experience with ERP systems and parts libraries.

  • Experience with automation processes.

Work Environment

The work schedule is Monday to Friday, from 8 am to 5 pm. The role is fully onsite. The company is growing rapidly by acquisition and market share, introducing more automation. Drafters have the opportunity to be promoted into designer roles where they will have more engineering responsibilities.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $31.00 - $34.00/hr.
