The Transmission Security Operations Center (TSOC) Supervisor is responsible for leading the 24x7 TSOC security professionals team, including but not limited to providing guidance to accomplish the daily monitoring, alerting, and response objectives of the security professionals. This position will have regular supervisor duties and ownership related to the oversight of this area including staffing, compliance, project management, and work management. The TSOC Supervisor is the first tier for escalations, issues management, or interactions related to daily TSOC operations. This role is responsible for overall day-to-day operations, and for the performance of the TSOC security professionals.

The TSOC Supervisor will collaborate with the Transmission Operations, Cyber Security, and Physical Security organizations frequently. They will actively participate in initiatives involving information sharing with external agencies such as the Department of Energy, Department of Homeland Security and E-ISAC (Electricity Information Sharing Analysis Center).

The TSOC Supervisor is responsible for security monitoring management, security alerting management, threat management and incident investigation that relate directly to the TSOC 24x7 security professionals. This role provides guidance and direction for overall Security Information and Event Management (SIEM), threat management, and security automation (SOAR) tools, including the adoption of new correlation rules and data feeds. Responsibilities also include generating metrics and reports for management. The TSOC Supervisor is responsible for ensuring that Service Level Agreements (SLA’s) are being met.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Actively lead a high performing, empowered team of 24x7 cybersecurity analysts.

  • Maintain TSOC situational awareness to include the following:

  • Sensor status

  • Systems status

  • Incident status

  • Threat environment

  • Personnel status

  • Maintain a high-level of technical knowledge of the cybersecurity threat landscape.

  • Provide investigation services and coordinate mitigation efforts during an incident.

  • Maintain measurable reporting processes to include alarm monitoring, event response, tracking, reporting, and other service areas.

  • Provide input on required staffing, software, hardware, and support budgets.

  • Responsible for managing 24x7 analyst performance by setting objectives, tracking performance, and providing feedback. Assists in the personal growth of staff through individual development plans, coaching, and job assignments.

  • Mentor and motivate a diverse team that evolves with technology and security needs.

  • Exhibit decision making skills by assessing multiple factors to determine priority and understanding when incoming requests require urgency or re-prioritization.

  • Provide input to contract negotiations for required software, hardware, and consulting.

  • Accomplish TSOC performance objectives as established by TSOC Manager

Qualifications include:

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant field.

  • 5+ years of IT and/or cyber security experience, with cyber experience preferred.

  • Certifications such as CISSP, CISM, or SANS are preferred.

  • Strong leadership and procedural skills

  • Excellent oral and written communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills are required.

  • Ability to work with all levels of management throughout the organization.

  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and conflict management skills.

  • Strong decision-making skills during emergency and crisis situations.

  • Ability to handle and protect highly confidential information.

  • Demonstrated understanding of best practices in cyber / physical security encompassing strategies, policies, principles, procedures, and standards.

  • Strong working knowledge of Threat Lifecycle and Incident Management

  • Strong knowledge of risk management techniques to defeat advanced attackers and capability to discuss techniques at a high level

  • Understanding of and experience with security technology and tools, including Security Information and Event Management (SIEM), Threat Intelligence, and Security Orchestration, Automation and Response (SOAR) platforms.

  • Strong knowledge of core Microsoft enterprise applications and services such as Active Directory identity and access management services, file/print services and other associated technologies.

  • Understanding of the uses, benefits, and controls needed for Generative AI and Machine Learning.

  • Experience with the effective use of Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).

  • Experience using quality assurance techniques and strategies to monitor and improve performance and ensure compliance with Service Level Agreements (SLAs).

  • Strong knowledge of process improvement techniques.

  • Ability to effectively manage multiple tasks concurrently on a regular basis.
