Summary This position is under direct supervision of the clinic supervisor. The incumbent will provide direct professional social work services through routine mental health evaluations and patient referral to individuals, families, and groups through inpatient and outpatient setting. Responsibilities Provide direct professional social work services through psychosocial assessments, care coordination, identify available resources for treatment and follow up. Provide diagnoses and treatment for a wide range of social and psychological problems. Such indications will require reference to the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders both (DSM) and (DSM-5). Will use a variety of treatment skills derived from a solid base experience through initiative, imagination, resourcefulness to effectively achieve positive patient treatment plans. Responsible for personal and professional growth in the evolving social services specialty. Coordinate meetings with medical providers, staff, and other stakeholders to construct and update patient care plans. Complete narrative reports, produce weekly and monthly statistical reports. Use automated data systems to capture patient documentation, tracking, and define appropriate measures. Qualifications To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. Individual Occupational Requirement (IOR) BASIC REQUIREMENT: Degree: In order to qualify for this position, you must have a master's degree in Social Work accredited by the Council on Social Work Education. In addition, to the Basic Requirements, you must also meet the Minimum Qualifications stated below- MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: GS-09: One (1) year of specialized experience with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. This specialized experience is related to the work of the position and equivalent to at least the GS-07 grade level in the Federal service. Examples Include: provide initial mental health evaluation, follow-up counseling, facilitate patients with available resources both public and private, coordinate additional appointments through patient evaluation, the use automated data systems for documentation narratives, therapy plans, and compliance reports. -OR- Master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in social work. GS-11: One (1) year of specialized experience with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. This specialized experience is related to the work of the position and equivalent to at least the GS-09 grade level in the Federal service. Examples Include: provide comprehensive psychosocial assessments, mental health evaluations, coordinate patient care, make diagnosis, serve as liaison to health care providers and stakeholders to establish patient care plan, respond to emergency mental health situations, use counseling theories, techniques, Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM), and (DSM-5). -OR- Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree in social work or related field or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in social work. Selective Placement Factor: Must possess licensure as a Licensure as a certified Social Worker or equivalent certification to provide independent behavioral health services. You must meet all qualification requirements within 30 days of the closing date of the announcement. Education This position has an education requirement. Federal Employees earn annual leave at a rate (4, 6 or 8 hours per pay period) which is based on the number of years they have served as a Federal employee. IHS may offer newly-appointed Federal employees credit for their directly related previous non-federal experience or active duty uniformed military service. This credited service can be used in determining the rate at which they earn annual leave. Recruitment or relocation incentives may be authorized. At least a 6 month service agreement will be required. This position has promotion potential to the GS-11 grade level. Promotion to the next grade level is at management's discretion and is based on your demonstrated ability to perform the higher level duties, the continuing need for the higher level duties, and "Regulatory/Administrative" approval.
