The Senior Sales & Use Tax Analyst position works with cross-functional teams across Generac, as well as business contacts outside the company. The Senior Sales & Use Tax Analyst is responsible for sales and use tax compliance, preparing month-end close adjustments, assisting with sales and use tax audits, performing and documenting technical research, maintaining exemption certificate compliance, identifying and resolving tax exposures, and responding to tax department inquiries. Responsibilities also include staying current on tax law changes and changes in the business activities of the company as well as advising Sales & Use Tax Supervisor regarding strategies for minimizing tax liability.

This position is onsite at our corporate headquarters in Waukesha, Wisconsin.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for timely and accurate completion of monthly, quarterly, and annual sales and use tax returns and reconciliations.

  • Maintain exemption certificate software and tax determination application. Identify where exposures exist and resolve

  • Address tax department inquiries from internal and external business partners

  • Assist with governmental sales and use tax audits

  • Assist with and ensure month-end close deadlines are met

Other Duties as assigned and the following:

Review the initial determination of taxation on purchase invoices and identify areas of opportunity. Perform reverse audits where needed.

Advise Sales & Use Tax Supervisor of areas of opportunity and strategies for minimizing tax exposures

Conduct technical research and documentation, as needed

Remain current on tax law changes and changes in the business activities of the company

Perform other duties as assigned

Minimal Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field

  • 3 years sales and use tax experience in Corporate Tax or Public Accounting

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in manufacturing environment

  • Experience with OneSource Tax Determination and Compliance

  • Experience with certificate management software

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Proficiency in SAP

  • Proficiency in CCH or other tax research tools

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook)

  • Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills

  • Strong attention to detail

  • Ability to deal with shifting priorities and deadlines

Physical demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear; and use hands to manipulate objects or controls. The employee is regularly required to stand and walk. On occasion, the incumbent may be required to stoop, bend or reach above the shoulders. The employee must occasionally lift up to 25 pounds. Specific conditions of this job include are typical of frequent and continuous computer-based work requiring periods of sitting, close vision and ability to adjust focus. Occasional travel.
