This position is located at either the Crow/Northern Cheyenne or Blackfeet hospitals in Montana and provides obstetrical services to American Indian women in the hospital's Obstetrics Department. Responsibilities This position reports to the Supervisory Clinical Nurse (Obstetrics) or designee and will have the following duties: Provide professional nursing care to obstetrics/neonatal patients. Administer prescribed medication and observe patients. Operate specialized monitoring equipment. Provide patient and family counseling on possible reactions to medications, health maintenance, and illness prevention and coordination of care. Requirements Conditions of Employment Selectee may be subject to a probationary/trial period. ESEP appointees typically serve a two year trial period. U.S. Citizenship is required. Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959. This is a designated position covered by Public Law 101-630, requiring contact or control over Indian children. Due to this requirement, the agency must ensure that persons hired for these positions have not been found guilty of or pleaded nolo contendere or guilty to certain crimes. Measles and Rubella immunization required for selectees born after 1957 and seasonal influenza immunization is required for all staff working in Indian Health Service health care facilities. Qualifications DIRECT HIRE AUTHORITY JOB OPPORTUNITY ANNOUNCEMENT: These positions are eligible to be filled through Office of Personnel Management's delegated Direct Hire Authority (DHA). MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: At the GS-9 and above grade level, many positions may require experience in a specialty area of nursing. Basic Requirements for the GS-7 (or equivalent) Grade Level: In addition to the above Basic Requirements, applicants must meet one of the following requirements: Possession of a bachelor's degree in Nursing and eligibility under the Superior Academic Achievement provision; Possession of a bachelor's degree in Nursing and at least one full year of professional nursing experience (equivalent to the GS-5 grade level); Possession of a diploma or associate degree in professional nursing and two full years of professional nursing experience; or- Completion of at least one full year of graduate education in a professional nursing educational program.- Examples of specialized experience for GS-07: Assess and care for the nursing needs of OB patients and other types of patients as assigned; develop plans of care to meet the needs of assigned patients; recognize adverse signs and symptoms and reacting swiftly in urgent situations; basic knowledge of triaging patients. Basic Requirements for the GS-9 (or equivalent) Grade Level: In addition to the above requirements, applicants must meet one of the following requirements: Possession of a master's degree in professional nursing; or At least one full year of professional nursing experience (equivalent to the GS-7 grade level or above) and possession of a diploma, associate degree, or bachelor's degree in Nursing from a professional nursing program. Examples of specialized experience for GS-09: Planning, scheduling and providing comprehensive antepartum, intrapartum and postpartum nursing care for women and newborns in an Obstetrical Unit; and providing technical guidance to other registered nurses. Basic Requirements for the GS-10 (or equivalent) Grade Level: In addition to the above requirements, applicants must meet one of the following requirements: At least one full year of professional nursing experience (equivalent to the GS-9 grade level) Examples of specialized experience for GS-10: Independently planning, scheduling and providing comprehensive antepartum, intrapartum and postpartum nursing care for women and newborns in an Obstetrical Unit; providing technical guidance to other registered nurses; and assigning tasks to and overseeing patient care administered by nursing personnel. TIME IN GRADE: Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP). You must meet all qualification requirements within 30 days of the closing date of the announcement.
