Description

The Media Services Coordinator performs various professional and technical support services for the City's Communications and Engagement department, including content creation, graphic design and layout, website content, visual, audio, and digital communication, strong copywriting skills, proofreading, and technical writing and research. This is an excellent opportunity for a collaborative team player who thrives in a fast-paced and dynamic work environment.

Your Impact

  • Administer the City’s primary social media accounts; develop content strategy for communicating the messages of the City Council and City Manager, and for major significant City events and issues. Provide support for continued development of the City’s brand and marketing; review and respond to public inquiries and comments on social media platforms.

  • Administer several other City social media accounts, including those for highly visible programs; advise City staff on social media use and style and content guidelines. Assist departments in developing content, site layout, and communication of appropriate messages.

  • Perform technical research for newsletter stories, feature articles, and other public information materials. Provide technical writing and editorial support as requested for special projects, newsletters, presentations, and reports.

  • Meet with other department representatives to determine project scope and clarify the intended message and the proposed audience for the material. Develop written copy following City style guidelines; develop graphics and visual images to illustrate the message; and select photographs when appropriate.

  • Assist in coordinating activities with the central reprographic unit, commercial printers, photographers, writers, editors, and suppliers of various publication services, and create production schedules.

  • Assist with administering the department's presence on the City’s websites; support content development for communicating the department's messages on events and priorities.

  • Provide support for the continued development of the department's brand and marketing.

  • Support the development of digital assets and visual strategy for communicating City Council and City Manager initiatives, and for major significant City events and issues.

  • Represent the department at community, inter-departmental, and other professional meetings, some evening and weekend events.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, public relations, graphic design, or related field.

  • Six (6) years of increasingly responsible experience in public relations, computerized graphic illustration, or multimedia production/broadcasting, including knowledge of website development applications and protocols, or any combination of education and experience that provides equivalent knowledge, skills, and abilities.

  • May require a valid California driver's license.

Best Fit

  • Must have advanced social media strategy and content creation skills, including graphic design skills with Adobe products (Adobe Creative Suite Photoshop, InDesign, and Illustrator).

  • Excellent copywriting skills for social media posts, newsletters, website copy, and remarks for leadership.

  • Experience working with elected officials and/or community stakeholders.

  • Advanced skills in PDF creation and editing knowledge within Acrobat Pro.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft PowerPoint is highly desired to create visually captivating presentations that effectively communicate the City’s brand and message.

  • Exceptional interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.

  • Ability to adapt to changing priorities and timelines and handle highly sensitive and confidential information while providing exceptional customer service.

  • Excellent time management skills and the ability to multitask in a fast-paced, dynamic environment with high attention to detail.

  • Exceptional writing and editing skills. Proficiency in MS Office software.
