SUMMARY:

The instructor - Veterinary Biomedical Technology will help develop and implement a high quality Veterinary Biomedical Technology curriculum for undergraduate students. This is a nine-month appointment, with the opportunity for summer employment, that will serve the College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources (CASNR) in a non-tenure-track faculty position. Primary responsibilities will be teaching and service, as needed by CASNR, by the university, and as required by accreditation agencies. The successful candidate will be expected to teach online and face-to-face undergraduate courses, help maintain a clean and safe environment at the A&M-Commerce Vet Tech Center, advise students regarding course and career choices, and assist and provide leadership for CASNR with FFA and 4-H service activities.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Teach undergraduate courses and labs in VETT as needed and for which qualifications can be demonstrated (15 credit hours per long semester)

  • Interact with departmental faculty, assisting with advising needs

  • Provide care and maintenance of all lab equipment and facilities

  • Maintain inventory and financial records for the VETT program

  • Help conduct FFA CDE events related to Veterinary Medicine

This description shall include, but is not limited to, the above duties, and the employee may temporarily perform other duties, as assigned, to maintain operations and services.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Education: M.S. in veterinary science, animal science, biology, or related field.

  • Experience / Knowledge / Skills:

Holds a current Licensed Veterinary Technician license in the state of Texas

Experience in the veterinary industry as an LVT

Excellent ability to communicate effectively (written and spoken English).

Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.

  • Ability to: Multi-task and work well as part of a team.

  • Licensing/Professional Certifications:

Valid driver’s license

Licensed Veterinary Technician

  • Physical Requirements: None

PREFERRED EDUCATION / SKILLS/ EXPERIENCE:

  • Higher education teaching experience as instructor of record and beyond the graduate student level.

  • Previous experience with online instruction.

  • Experience in a veterinary surgical environment

  • Large and exotic animal knowledge/experience

SUPERVISION OF OTHERS:

Graduate assistants and student workers
