Description

BridgeValley Community and Technical College invites applications for an Institutional Advisor. This is a professional level position responsible for facilitating the application and admission of students into higher education. Job responsibilities require the ability to develop and evaluate alternatives for possible courses of action. Work is performed under immediate supervision, working within guidelines and established standards. Problems faced in this position are highly varied, complex, and often non-recurring, which may require novel and creative approaches to resolution. Decisions have major implications on the management and operations of an area within a department, and may contribute to important strategy, operations, and business decisions that affect the department This position serves as a member of the Department of Student Services team and provides guidance on retention efforts best practices to faculty, staff, and administration.

This position is based in Montgomery with travel to South Charleston as needed. This position is a non-classified position, exempt from overtime, and benefits eligible. We feel strongly about equal pay for equal work, and transparency in compensation is one vehicle to achieve that. Salary will commensurate with education and experience.

Examples of Duties

  • Assist with the Early Alert Management System

  • Provide monthly/semester reports to the Director and Associate Vice President regarding at risk students

  • Present faculty training workshops on the Early Alert Management System Serves as a Professional Advisor within Student Services to incoming students and provides onboarding information to ensure student success

  • Collaborate with faculty, program chairs, and academic deans in other departments regarding academic advising and early intervention for at risk students

  • Assist students to transition successfully to BridgeValley and provide academic advising to first time and transfer students.

  • Provide information about campus and community resources, which will assist students in achieving personal, educational, and career goals

  • Assist students who are undecided when applying with career exploration/assessment options

  • Assist with orientation/open house and other events as needed by being an active team member to Student Services

  • Develop and present workshops on student success strategies to students

  • Serve on committees as needed

  • Supervise, serve, and lead a student organization

  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree with a preference in Counseling, Leadership, Education, or related field OR Associate’s degree with 5 years of experience

  • Higher education experience or related experience (preference in a community college) Strong Computer Skills

  • Customer service experience

  • Ability to work as an effective team member

  • Strong time management, organizational, and critical thinking skills

Preferred:

  • Experience with Banner, D2L BrightSpace, Microsoft Office Products Attention to detail and accuracy

  • Strong understanding of first-generation students and challenges they face in achieving success
