GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

The city of Evanston is a small Rocky Mountain community that is a 45-minute drive from the world-famous ski slopes of Park City, Utah, and 75 minutes away from the metropolitan amenities of Salt Lake City. Evanston's area is excellent for recreational activities such as hiking, camping, fishing, biking, snowmobiling, and cross-country skiing.

The candidate selected for this position will provide forensic psychological services to the Criminal Justice Unit, including sanity and competency assessment, risk assessment, admission screening, and individual therapy. This position may also provide staff consultation, training, administrative committee/meetings, and other duties as assigned. There may be travel to communities within the state to provide community-based forensic evaluations.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:The listed functions are illustrative only and are not intended to describe every function which may be performed at the job level.

  • Performs forensic evaluations (primarily competency to stand trial, mental state at the time of offense, and risk assessments) as ordered by the Court.

  • Provides oral and written testimony to the Court.

  • Writes reports to the Court.

  • Provides and interprets psychological testing, including evaluating mental illness, intelligence, personality, and neuropsychological functioning.

  • Confers with officers of the Court, attorneys, physicians, nurses, and other disciplines.

Qualifications

PREFERENCES:

**Doctorate of Psychology (Ph.D. or Psy.D.)

**Must be licensed or eligible for licensure as a Psychologist in the State of Wyoming

KNOWLEDGE:

  • Knowledge of training, supervising, and experience specific to the provision of competency and sanity evaluations.

  • Knowledge of providing assessment and treatment of patients judged Not Guilty by Reason of Mental Illness.

  • Knowledge of risk assessment of a criminal justice population.

  • Knowledge of psychopathology, appropriate test measures for use in evaluation, different treatment approaches, human development, team dynamics, consultation with staff, and hospital policies.

  • Knowledge of evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment of individuals with severe psychopathology and conveying this to others in verbal and written form.

  • Knowledge of skills in diagnosis, psychological testing, and psychotherapy/treatment of severe psychological problems and personality disorders.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:

PsyD or PhD in Psychology

Experience:

2-4 years of progressive work experience (typically in Psychology)

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:

Must be licensed or eligible for licensure as a Psychologist in the State of Wyoming

Necessary Special Requirements

PHYSICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Physical ability to lift, twist, bend, pull, and push up to 50 lbs

  • Possession of a valid driver's license

NOTES:

  • FLSA: Exempt

  • At-Will position

  • A background check, including fingerprinting, will be completed through the Wyoming Division of Criminal Investigation, the Wyoming Department of Family Services, and the F.B.I. for every successful applicant.

  • Employees of this facility will be expected to follow all rules and requirements established by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services regarding COVID-19.
