Job Summary

Under general supervision, is responsible for performing professional work reviewing design and construction of City facilities to be constructed for the City of San Antonio and providing technical assistance to other related design and construction as directed by the Division management. Working conditions are primarily inside an office environment. Exercises no supervision.

7:45 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.; Monday - Friday

Essential Job Functions

  • Coordinates the design, development, and implementation of projects.

  • Conducts project kickoff meetings; communicates individual roles and project expectations; ensures all project team members have the tools and training required to perform effectively.

  • Develops and maintains detailed project schedules.

  • Monitors project milestones and critical dates to identify potential risk to project schedule; identifies ways to resolve schedule issues; keeps management current on any changes.

  • Coordinates with contractors and other City departments on construction projects.

  • Develops special reports, studies and presentation as requested by the Department, develops cost estimates and design ramifications for various projects.

  • Maintain records and files on all work completed and on-going projects, to include current cost data for estimating design projects.

  • Inspects construction sites during construction, carrying up to 10 pounds of material and touring in diverse environments.

  • Authorizes payments to contractors based on inspection of work performed.

  • Evaluates cost on "Change Order" proposals for authorization and/or negotiation.

  • Performs related duties and fulfills responsibilities as required.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university.

  • Valid Class "C" Texas Driver's License.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Coursework in related fields of study such as Landscape Architecture Design, Civil Engineering, Construction, Horticulturist, etc.

  • Knowledge and experience with various software, such as Microstation, AutoCAD, Primavera, Microsoft Projects, Arc GIS, Illustrator, & Adobe Pro.

  • Intermediate experience using Microsoft Suite applications.

  • Experience with procurement, budgeting, accounting, and statistical research processes and procedures.

  • Knowledge and experience in planning, developing, and maintaining work plans and schedules for current and long-term projects.

  • Knowledge of Greenway Trails and landscaping planning through site analysis and design.

  • Knowledge of Civil engineering and construction inspection procedures and basic practices.

  • Unless otherwise stated, applicants are permitted to substitute two years of related full-time experience for one year of higher education or one year of related higher education for two years of experience in order to meet the minimum requirements of the job. One year of full-time experience is defined as 30 or more hours worked per week for 12 months. One year of higher education is defined as 30 credit hours completed at an accredited college or university.

  • Applicants selected for employment with the City of San Antonio in this position must receive satisfactory results from pre-employment drug testing and background checks. If required for the position, a physical, motor vehicle record evaluation, and additional background checks may be conducted.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of architecture principles, practices, and techniques.

  • Knowledge of disciplines such as Mechanical, Electrical,

Plumbing, Structural, and Civil installations.

  • Knowledge of design and planning relationships and principles.

  • Knowledge of ADA requirements and codes.

  • Knowledge of construction, materials, and trades.

  • Knowledge of principles, practices, and techniques used in

estimating costs of construction.

  • Skill in utilizing a personal computer and associated software

programs.

  • Ability to negotiate and solve problems.

  • Ability to read plans and blueprints.

  • Ability to develop clear and concise reports and presentations.

  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively.

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships

with City staff and the general public.

  • Ability to perform all the physical requirements of the position,

with or without accommodations.
