Job Summary

Under general direction, is responsible for education curriculum and development of programs providing a full range of public education benefits. This position will assist in the development and management of a wide range of community-based arts services including but not limited to performing, visual, culinary, literary, etc. This position will work closely with community organizations and leaders to lead on and off-site outreach programs and recruitment of instructors and program participants. Exercises no supervision.

Work Location

226 N. Hackberry St. (Carver Community Cultural Center)

Work Hours

7:45 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.; Monday - Friday. Significant Saturday programing attendance will be required. Shifts are subject to change to accommodate special events, evening coverage, rotating weekends, and holiday shiftwork, as dictated by business needs.

Essential Job Functions

  • Establishes and develops curriculum, educational, and arts-based programs for participants of various age groups.

  • Assists Carver Executive Director to develop programming budgets, forecasts, and cohesive integration with the organization’s operations

  • In collaboration with the marketing and communications team, will develop and implement an effective media campaign including the development of promotional material for education and community engagement programs.

  • Recruits, trains, and schedules instructors, interns, volunteers, and other staff as needed.

  • Organizes and maintains community programs and leaders support for a wide variety of activities and maintains tracking system of volunteer activity.

  • Writes and edits e-mail newsletters, media announcements, and other articles and publications relating to the educational program.

  • Organizes resources for arts and educational programs and maintains tracking system of educational activities and participation.

  • Presents at schools, clubs, and other outside organizations.

  • Cultivates and maintains relationships with local schools, colleges, social service agencies, and other educational and civic institutions to form partnerships and mutually beneficial relationships.

  • Assist with transportation needs as needed.

  • Implements in-house training programs.

  • Photographs and video records all program presentations and maintains educational displays.

  • Performs related duties and fulfills responsibilities as required.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university.

  • Two (2) years of relatable experience.

  • Valid Class "C" Texas Driver's License.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Two (2) years of experience in developing, coordinating, managing, and delivering Arts, Educational, or Recreation community-based programming.

  • Prior experience recruiting participants and instructors for various arts and educational programs for various age groups from 4 years old to adult.

  • Previous experience working directly with community programs or leaders.

  • Ability and willingness to work various shifts based on departmental needs, including Saturdays, evenings, and weekends.

  • Knowledge of best practices and current methodologies in arts education.

  • Bilingual in English and Spanish (speak, read, & write).

Applicant Information

  • Unless otherwise stated, applicants are permitted to substitute two years of related full-time experience for one year of higher education or one year of related higher education for two years of experience in order to meet the minimum requirements of the job. One year of full-time experience is defined as 30 or more hours worked per week for 12 months. One year of higher education is defined as 30 credit hours completed at an accredited college or university.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of interpretive program design and delivery, including the management of education programs, events, and outings.

  • Knowledge of media resources and the ability to produce quality promotional material.

  • Skill in the proficient operation of personal computers and associated software.

  • Skill in dealing with people of differing ages, backgrounds, abilities, and personalities.

  • Ability to motivate and coordinate volunteer resources and volunteer programs, including recruitment, training, and management.

  • Ability to plan and manage educational programs, events, and outings.

  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively.

  • Ability to produce quality presentations, correspondence, and reports.

  • Ability to research a subject and translate this knowledge into effective educational displays and exhibits.

  • Ability to perform all the physical requirements of the position, with or without accommodations.

  • Working conditions are both indoor and outdoor.
