Position Information

SEARCH has an immediate opening for a Full-Time Architectural History Sector Leader to join our Architectural History division. This position may be remote or based out of one of our SEARCH offices, depending on location. The SEARCH Sector system focuses Leaders on certain areas of the CRM industry to ensure SEARCH maintains coverage across all markets and services. The roles and responsibilities of our service sector leaders focus on technical excellence and leadership in each of the service disciplines offered by SEARCH. The Architectural History Sector Leader oversees all architectural history work conducted by SEARCH throughout the US and around the world

Key Responsibilities:

  • Grow and manage a professional team of architectural historians to support work in all market sectors. Management of the team includes, but is not limited to, regular communication with staff, professional development of all team members, ad hoc performance management, completion of regular performance reviews, and fostering of a positive work environment and teamwork.

  • Conduct technical work and manage projects to successful completion.

  • Work with Project Managers and Market Sector Leaders to support successful delivery of projects. This includes, but is not limited to, regular communication with Project Managers to schedule resources for project work and providing technical review and quality control for architectural history deliverables and report components (e.g., report chapters, appendixes, resource forms, and other documents).

  • Work with Government and Commercial Directors and Marketing/Business Development Leaders to develop strategies to strengthen and grow the sector and identify new pursuits and teaming opportunities, both domestic and international.

  • Develop repeat business by providing excellent customer service and developing strong client relationships. This includes mentoring staff in the SEARCH tenets of customer service: technical quality, professional and friendly communication, proactive engagement, problem solving, and responsiveness.

  • Provide expertise for complex technical questions regarding the discussion, evaluation, or treatment of architectural resources.

  • Support the Market Sector Leaders and Proposal Leads by providing input for “Get to Go” decisions.

  • Participate in the SEARCH annual strategic planning process to ensure that the Architectural History sector aligns with and supports the business plan for the upcoming year.

  • Contribute to the development of proposals in all market sectors, including scoping and pricing architectural history work.

  • Manage staff utilization (including your own) to meet established goals and support project workload.

  • For each project, ensure your team’s compliance with SEARCH’s and the Client’s (if applicable) Quality Assurance and Quality Control Policy.

  • For each project, ensure your team’s compliance with SEARCH’s and the Client’s (if applicable) Health & Safety Program.

  • Maintain a current knowledge of regulations, guidelines, and industry best practices.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

Qualifications Required:

  • Advanced degree (Master’s or PhD) in Historic Preservation, Architectural History, or a closely related field.

  • 10 years’ experience in cultural resource management, with at least 5 years of supervisory responsibility.

  • Exceeds the Secretary of the Interior’s Professional Qualifications Standards for architectural history (36 CFR Part 61).

  • Advanced knowledge of Section 106 and 110 of the National Historic Preservation Act, knowledge of the National Environmental Policy Act, and experience supporting clients in complex agency consultation efforts.
