Purpose of the Job

Based in Hong Kong, responsible for the underwriting and marketing of risks in Hong Kong and Asia territories as later defined by the Financial Lines Manager, Asia-Pacific. Actively involved in the Asia–Pacific plan initiatives in the development of existing and new lines of business. Assisting to identify new opportunities, competitive market and pricing research, coverage analysis and a hands on approach to direction and guidance on attainment of growth and profitability targets.

Job Responsibilities & Competence

  • Principal authority to accept risks on behalf of Hartford Asia Limited A/F Syndicate 1221 and any other authorized entity defined by Hartford Group.

  • Assist financial lines manager to drive the growth and profit initiatives directly for all of Asia-Pacific in Financial Lines.

  • Perform high quality underwriting, steering value determination and deal structuring

  • Adhere to Financial Lines guidelines and processes, and lives up to best underwriting standards

  • Manage the assigned distribution channels and achieve the assigned new and renewal business production and underwriting profit objectives

  • Assist with Product development initiatives throughout the Region

  • Work closely with Asia Pacific and International Claims team regarding claims handling

  • Assist in identifying new opportunities in existing and new markets

  • Ensure the underwriting documentation is properly filed

  • Production of business documentation, incl. quotation, R/I certificate or agreement, binding slip and etc. as required

  • Help execute Financial Lines strategies throughout targeted territories

  • Perform additional duties as assigned by management

Qualifications and Competencies

  • IARB – HK Exams and Lloyds HK Service Company technical representative status

  • Basic management and leadership skills for potential growth in organization

  • Excellent communication skills in written and spoken English with both Cantonese and Mandarin preferred

  • Demonstrated or has the ability to lead and develop business and business relationships at a national and regional corporate level. Should have multi-country and multi-cultural experiences in some of the key Asian professional lines insurance markets, specifically in HK, China, Taiwan, Singapore and any emerging markets for said lines of business.

  • Innovative and open-minded thinking to embrace a new challenge to assist building of a start-up portfolio

  • Self-motivated and ability to work independently – as well as in a team atmosphere

  • Strong personable and highly effective communication, marketing and presentation skills

Experience

  • Relevant experience

  • Track record in underwriting, product development and marketing, with profitable growth of portfolio

  • Good relationship with distribution channels in Hong Kong and preferably other major Asian insurance territories

  • Good knowledge of Financial Lines products

  • Strong proactive team player

  • Ability to work independently with minimal guidance

  • Good organisation and documentation skills

  • Analytical and able to negotiate and influence business
