This role sits in the Social Value Team reporting to the Director of Corporate ESG. The Social Value Team is part of the corporate Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) function.

The ESG function enables, co-ordinates and amplifies ESG activity. By working across the business – and with partner organisations – to define, measure and improve all aspects of WSP’s ESG performance. The team create purposeful impact, lasting success, and help to demonstrate we’re a responsible business.

This role plays a significant part in helping WSP achieve the goal to create £120m additional social value by the end of 2024, and to enhance the lives of communities – through both our project work and corporate activities.

A typical week could include:

  • Manage the WSP’s corporate giving programme, driving the strategy and processes for the WSP Foundation, Charity of the Year, Humanitarian Aid and Volunteering programmes.

  • Track volunteering activity across the region, provide data for both UK and global reporting when requested, and ensure we have collected evidence for all volunteering days booked through the corporate programme (every permanent UK employee is entitled to two days volunteering) so we can verify the annual number on the Social Value Portal.

  • Be seen as the ambassador for the volunteering programme in the UK, manage the process for volunteering and help colleagues utilise their two days by sharing stories to inspire, and supporting them through the process.

  • Maximise volunteering opportunities with WSP’s official charity partners and promote through internal comms and charity champions networks.

  • Monitor developments in the corporate giving space and share insight with colleagues.

  • Generate new opportunities, and further develop already established programmes, including working with legal, ethics and health and safety to ensure policies, processes and guidance are in place.

  • Manage the Volunteering and WSP Foundation inboxes and respond to emails promptly, seeking answers from colleagues across the business and management services to provide the right advice.

  • Work with the WSP Foundation treasurer and committee to co-ordinate and deliver the annual programmes e.g. laptop donations, legacy grants, match funding, and charitable donations.

  • Monitor budgets and purchase order/invoices, keep guidelines and policies up to date.

  • Work closely with Account Managers at Macmillan Cancer Support and the Irish Cancer Society to maximise charity of the year fundraising and develop and implement guidance and processes.

  • Work with key stakeholders across WSP to maximise charity of the year opportunities across the business – internal communications, wellbeing team, graduate programme leads, senior leadership team.

  • Work with stakeholders across WSP to maximise opportunities with Humanitarian Aid partners, including sharing stories and promoting ways to get involved across WSP.

  • Contribute to the monthly report for senior leadership on progress.

  • Provide input to corporate reporting regionally and globally e.g. annual global ESG report, UK social value reporting.

  • Identify awards and events, manage the submission and process for shortlisted opportunities.

  • Manage company memberships such as the Institute of Corporate Responsibility and Sustainability (ICRS) and identify accreditations/memberships we should consider as part of our on-going plans.

  • Collaborate with colleagues in marketing communications to promote activities, and when required create materials e.g. posters, training materials, case studies, presentations.

  • Develop subject matter knowledge on social value and corporate responsibility by attending webinars, courses, and connecting with likeminded professionals on social media. Share knowledge and insight with colleagues, use this knowledge to refine and evolve social value activity at WSP.

  • Lead the network of Charity Champions across the business to maximise on the ground communications and activities.
