WATTS Manufacturing Engineering Designer in Vernon, British Columbia

As the Manufacturing Engineering Designer, you will be responsible for design and validation of production automation tools and equipment used in the production and quality assurance process to test and calibrate electronics. Under the supervision of the Manufacturing Engineering Manager, you will work with the new product design team to improve manufacturability and testing of new devices.

You Will:

  • Engineering design, fabrication and validation of production automation tools and equipment with a focus on calibration and test stands, including embedded electronics, pneumatics, mechanical and software.

  • Work with new product development on up front design for manufacturability to ensure products are built in the most economical process possible.

  • Identify from current processes and develop solutions for manufacturing process improvements.

  • Participate in weekly project update team meetings to assist in planning.

  • Create test procedures and checklists for manufacturing and test fixtures.

  • Validating the design meets the specifications and completing the checklists.

  • Maintain technical documentation for product requirements, build directions, and test fixtures.

  • Collaborate with other departments or Watts corporate teams to help establish product requirements, design, and testing.

  • Customization of products for readiness in manufacturing.

  • Help identify cost reduction efforts including global sourcing of components and processes, redesign of products and components through execution of Value added/ Value Engineering (VA/VE) methodologies.

  • Assist new product development engineering with integration of new products, both buy/sell and internally manufactured, into production. Responsibilities include manufacturing feasibility and process development, COGS Models, pre-production/prototype/acceptance runs, SOP’s, etc.

You Have:

  • Technologist Diploma or Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical, Mechatronics, Electrical/Electronic or related engineering discipline.

  • Minimum 3 years of relevant experience in mechanical design, fabrication, testing and validation.

  • Mechanical design using 3D CAD software, SolidWorks.

  • Proficiency with standard software such as Microsoft Office and ERP systems.

Physical Requirements:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to walk, talk, and/or hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand, sit, and use hands to finger, handle, or feel. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 30 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include: close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment:

Works in an office/laboratory environment with the ability to work remotely and collaborate effectively with virtual teams.
