Rincon Consultants Staff Accountant in Ventura, California

Rincon Consultants, Inc. is seeking a Staff Accountant to add to our growing Accounting Team. This role primarily involves assisting in the preparation of financial statements, maintaining the general ledger, and ensuring the accuracy of financial records. This role is heavily focused on general ledger (GL) tasks such as month-end closing journal entry preparation and posting, as opposed to ancillary accounting functions such as accounts payable/receivable and billing support functions. The ideal candidate will have a solid understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and knowledge of the fundamentals associated with different functional areas of accounting. Experience at a public accounting firm or general accounting work at another professional services firm are highly desirable.

This position requires proficiency with Microsoft Excel and strong time management, analytical, communication and interpersonal skills. Candidates must have a degree in Accounting from an accredited four year university. While this role may offer flexible work arrangements that can include a mix of in-office and remote work, our changing business needs will ultimately determine our level of remote-work flexibility. Additionally, to promote in-person collaboration and client teaming, we prioritize hiring those who reside within 50 miles of the Ventura Rincon office.

Overview of Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Preparing journal entries

  • Supporting month-end and year-end close

  • Reconciling of bank statements and credit card statements to general ledger

  • Conducting regular account reconciliations to ensure accurate reporting and ledger maintenance

  • Researching and correcting account discrepancies

  • Creating and maintain spreadsheets for financial data analysis and financial reporting

  • Review expense reports and credit card expense to make sure all transactions are properly recorded

  • Assisting with audit fieldwork for both operational and financial audits

  • Reviewing accounts payable and accounts receivable transactions for proper GL and subaccount coding

  • Assisting in other accounting projects as needed

This Job Might Be For You If You Have The Following:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or higher level education required

  • Minimum of 2 years of general accounting experience, either in a public accounting firm or in a professional services corporate environment

  • Proficient in GL account reconciliation and journal entry preparation

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy

  • Understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)

  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, vlookups, complex formulas, processing large amounts of data)

  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team

  • High level of integrity and trustworthiness

  • Strong organizational and multitasking skills

  • Deltek Ajera or comparable project-based ERP experience

The base salary range for this full-time position is $65,000-$90,000, plus benefits and bonus. At Rincon, our salary ranges are based on market median of similar jobs, according to third party salary benchmark surveys. The base pay that is actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate’s job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
