Description
PeaceHealth is seeking a Histotechnician - Pathology for a Full Time, 1.00 FTE, Night position. The salary range for this job opening at PeaceHealth is $31.90 – $47.85. The hiring rate is dependent upon several factors, including but not limited to education, training, work experience, terms of any applicable collective bargaining agreement, seniority, etc.
Job Summary
Performs tissue processing, embedding, sectioning and preparing special stains. Assures quality standards for preparation, processing and evaluation of specimens for diagnosis by the Pathologist.
Essential Functions
Processes specimens to include: performing embedding techniques for surgical and autopsy specimens; performing routine and special stains for diagnostic interpretation.
Performs microtomy techniques to produce high-quality tissue sections for diagnostic interpretation. Prepares reagents utilized to aid diagnostic interpretation.
Files paraffin blocks and slides for efficient retrieval.
Performs data entry, lookup and retrieval of information.
Performs preventive maintenance on equipment to maintain maximum operating efficiency. Maintains records and documentation required to manage the daily workflow and providing quality control/assurance monitors.
May perform CAP (College of American Pathologists) compliance duties to include: periodic record reviews; equipment and test validation; development and maintenance of policy, procedure and guidance documents; proficiency testing and competency management; CAP inspection preparation, assessment and follow up; and technical and procedural advisement and referral.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Education
- Associate degree Required or equivalent in relevant field of study
Experience
- Minimum of 1 year Required: Related experience
Credentials
- Preferred: ASCP-HT Histotechnician Certification
Skills
Working knowledge of tissue collection, preparation, and test requirements and factors affecting test interpretation in responding to inquiries. (Required)
Good written and verbal communication skills. (Required)
Working knowledge of computer systems such as Microsoft Windows, and Microsoft Office programs. (Required)
Working Conditions
Lifting
Ability to move around area with occasional sitting.
Fine motor skills to be able to grasp and control medical equipment, frequently.
Lift/Carry: Frequently up to 5 lbs.
Push/Pull: Frequently up to 10 lbs. force.
Reaching frequently.
Squat/ kneel occasionally.
Environmental Conditions
Exposure to biohazard, body fluids and airborne particles.
Exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals.
Mental/Visual
Ability to communicate and exchange accurate information.
The worker is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading.
