The Department of Chemistry in the College of Liberal Arts & Sciences is searching for a Coordinator of Research Programs to coordinate and manage all administrative, business, research, editorial, and development activities for the Denmark Laboratory.
Duties & Responsibilities
Research Administration
- Coordinates the preparation and submission of research grant proposals to various granting agencies. Plan and coordinate financial and scientific reports to campus offices and federal agencies.
- Manage the research resources of the laboratories, including managing all purchase requests, assisting PI in oversight of research activities, handling all research correspondence, managing all organizational tasks relative to the research programs, overseeing monthly group progress reports, tracking productivity and scheduling of monthly meetings.
- Assist PI in assuring compliance for all safety training and laboratory safety audits. Inter-face with F&S to address all maintenance issues with laboratory infrastructure (air handling, plumbing and electrical). Coordinate service and maintenance of all laboratory equipment with various manufacturers and service organizations. Coordinate specialized equipment training as needed.
- Keys, proofs, edits, prints, and copies correspondence, manuscripts, and reports using Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and ChemDraw. Prepares letters of reference and signs documents as directed by faculty. Establishes and maintains confidential records and files for faculty. Maintains PI\'s contacts and CV Manages printing of theses, postdoctoral reports, internal photos, journal articles, and other printing requests for PI.
- Coordinate postdoctoral and student travel for conferences. Submit reimbursement requests for postdoctoral researchers and students for travel and other research related expenses.
- Maintain and update group website (publications, personnel, presentations, group news) in conjunction with ATLAS
Business Administration
- Manages complex portfolio of faculty funds. Includes analysis of monthly financial statements to determine compliance with budgetary and technical requirements of the university system and granting agencies. Assist with graduate student and postdoctoral associate payroll appointments.
- Assists with PIs calendar scheduling and a large volume of complex travel arrangements and itineraries for invited lectures and conferences. Authorized to hold a university credit card for travel reservations.
- Coordinates personnel management processes for group members including undergraduate, graduate, visiting students and post docs. For new members, includes aiding with visas, hiring paperwork, and managing programmatic and equipment access. Manages records of group vacation/sick days; submits approvals by proxy. For departing members, includes referral to HR coordinator, updating contact information, obtaining and filing inventory of research materials, and scheduling final meeting with PI.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor\'s degree in business administration, management, or a field related to the position.
- Two (2) years of professional business, financial, and/or managerial work experience (NOTE: A Master\'s Degree in an area consistent with the duties of the position may be substituted for one (1) year (12 months) of work experience.)
Preferred Qualifications
- Two years of professional level acc unting, managerial and/or business experience, one year of which is at an administrative level.

Appointment Information
This is a 50% Civil Service 5010 - Business/Administrative Associate position, appointed on a 12-month basis. The expected start date is as soon as possible after the deadline date. The budgeted salary range for this position is \$26,500 - \$29,500. We strive to provide a competitive salary, considering factors such as available market data, internal equity, candidate experience and qualifications, collective bargaining agreements, and budget constraints. The final salary offer will be determined through a thorough assessment of these elements. This position is eligible for a hybrid work schedule (remote work and in-person work in Champaign-Urbana each week) after an initial training period. Sponsorship for Work Authorization is not available for this position.
