Job Summary

Create and implement strategic communications plan for the Department of Mathematics that addresses key stakeholders including current students, faculty, staff, and alumni.

Duties & Responsibilities

Communications

In coordination with department leadership, develop and implement a comprehensive communications strategy for the department in alignment with department, college, and campus strategic priorities and in adherence to college and campus brand

Assist with communications annual planning and priority setting for the departments in concert with department leadership

Cover and disseminate news happening within the departments via department channels, other internal university channels, and outside media. This includes actively seeking out, interviewing, and writing news and feature stories about faculty, students, staff, and alumni

Serve as primary writer, content creator, and editor for department communications aimed at various constituencies including faculty, staff, current students, prospective students, alumni, donors, industry, and foundations

Create content for and manage all department communications channels including departmental website, e-newsletters, social media platforms, print publications, print or digital building displays and wayfinding, and other promotional materials

Develop and disseminate content for current students. This may include the use of digital signage, newsletters, flyers, and other channels

Assist in developing and amplifying advancement-related communications in coordination with the college Office of Advancement team

If needed, hire, train, and manage student interns to assist with communications

Data Analysis & Reporting

Update and manage statistics and contact related to the departments\' history, accomplishments, and pride points

Produce and analyze regular reports showing the performance of communications tactics

Engagement & Publicity

Work with the University of Illinois Foundation and others to manage mailing lists according to college and campus guidelines

Build and maintain strong relationships with department leaders and faculty members

Foster relationships with alumni, external constituents, and affiliated campus units

Work collaboratively with other mathematics staff, faculty, and members of the OCM team

Work within and contribute to department project management systems

Represent the department on college and campus committees as requested

Other communications-related duties as assigned to further the mission of the unit

Marketing

Work with math department leadership to market degrees and programs to prospective students

Ensure unit messaging related to student recruitment is consistent with an overall marketing plan

Required Qualifications

Bachelor\'s degree in marketing, business administration, communications, public relations, or a closely related field.

Two (2) years of professional work experience in marketing, public relations, communications, brand management, or a related professional area. Two (2) years of professional experience in event planning and management. Experience may be concurrent.

Preferred Qualifications

Two (2) years of professional work experience in science communication, marketing, public relations, brand management, or a related professional area. Five (5) years of experience working in communications and writing and producing materials. One (1) year experience with social media and website development (utilizing a variety of programming g, e.g., Drupal, WordPress, Dreamweaver, UNIX). Supervision experience.

Appointment Information

This is a 100% full-time Civil Service 5004 - Marketing Associate position, appointed on a 12-month basis. The expected start date is as soon as possible after the deadline date.
