The Administration team at the Center for Innovation in Teaching and Learning (CITL) is actively seeking an experienced Communications Coordinator to help us narrate the transformative influence of our teaching and learning initiatives. Our work focuses on engaging with, highlighting, and sharing more broadly the creative innovations of our instructors, students, staff, and campus stakeholders. It\'s a collaborative endeavor, uniting a variety of perspectives towards a shared objective: to simplify educational complexity, highlight the \"how\" behind our initiatives, celebrate teaching successes across campus, and connect people with information that helps them teach better and learn more effectively. Above all, we are driven by our mission to make a tangible impact in the realm of teaching and learning through supporting, partnering, and collaborating dynamically with campus instructors and educational leaders. Central to this role is our commitment to advocating for inclusivity and diversity across the full breadth of our offerings.

Working closely with CITL members and various campus stakeholders, the Communications Coordinator leads a comprehensive strategy to effectively distribute, across a range of communication platforms, messages that showcase teaching innovations at Illinois and that resonate with, and celebrate, the diversity of faculty, staff, and students at the University of Illinois.

Duties & Responsibilities -

Writing, content development

  • Identify, research, interview, and write news and feature stories that elevate the impact of Illinois teaching and learning initiatives, using language that is clear and compelling.
  • Gather and write short-form newsletter content highlighting teaching and learning stories as well as programs, resources, and events across campus.
  • Develop brief announcements and notices for internal audiences (primarily educators and learners across campus).
  • Write and update website content that is clear, concise, and audience focused.
  • Craft social media posts that compel audiences to read stories and visit webpages.
  • Understand and apply Illinois and CITL brand guidelines and communication strategies.
  • Maintain a consistent voice and tone.
  • Provide editing, proofreading, and quality assurance as needed.

Communication Coordination

  • Develop production schedules and deadlines, coordinating communications projects from concept to execution.
  • Serve as editor and coach for CITL/campus authors and co-authors engaged in CITL-focused publications
  • Publish stories on the website, review, and update webpage content.
  • Meet with CITL stakeholders to determine communication project needs.
  • Serve as a communications resource for CITL staff as needed.
  • Maintain social media platform and strategy.
  • Produce internal e-newsletter.
  • Promote events and support event communication.
  • Gather and organize information needed for campaigns, infographics, and other projects.

Collaboration

  • Work closely with CITL creative team to generate ideas and develop project concepts, approaches, and strategic plans.
  • Collaborate with colleagues in other CITL units, including curriculum development, media and art team, learning resources, student relations, and others.
  • Develop and maintain cooperative relationships with colleagues across campus, including marketing communications staff at the academic departments and colleges.
  • Stay informed of emerging teaching and learning topics and trends relevant to CITL audiences.

Required Qual fications -

  • Bachelor\'s degree in communications, journalism, marketing, business administration, public relations, English, radio/television broadcasting, web/digital media, or a related field.
  • Three (3) years (36 months) of professional work experience in marketing, public relations, communications, brand management, or a related professional area.
  • Demonstrated experience researching, shaping, and drafting news stories and feature articles.

Preferred Qualifications -

  • Experience researching, shaping and drafting news stories and feature articles.
  • Three years\' experience in a higher education communications position.
  • Demonstrated experience in communications and marketing strategy.
  • Demonstrated experience writing marketing and website copy.
  • Demonstrated experience in social media content and strategy.
  • Teaching experience, work in educational technologies, or faculty development
  • Experience working with designers to develop promotional and marketing materials.
  • Project management experience.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities -

Strong writing and editing skills.

Mastery of grammar, punctuation, and spelling; error-free clear, effective language.
