Postdoctoral Associate

Required Qualifications: (as evidenced by an attached resume)

Doctoral Degree (or foreign equivalent).

Preferred Qualifications:

● PhD in Biochemistry, Plant Science, Biochemistry, Genetics, Molecular and Cellular Biology, or a closely related field.

● Experience in the biochemistry of plant lipid metabolism.

● Demonstrated evidence of publication in well-respected peer-reviewed journals.

● Possess passion and enthusiasm for performing biochemical studies to enable the development of plants that will contribute to the emerging US Bioeconomy.

Brief Description of Duties:

The Postdoctoral Associate will assist the Principal Investigator Dr. John Shanklin (https://www.bnl.gov/staff/shanklin) in the department of Biochemistry and Cell Biology (https://www.stonybrook.edu/commcms/biochem/research/#AdjunctFaculty) . The incumbent will conduct research and ensure that all experiments are appropriately conducted following the policies and procedures of Stony Brook University.

● Within the predetermined research scope and methodology, conduct experiments in the field of plant lipid biochemistry, protein engineering, and molecular biotechnology.

● Collect and analyze data, including periodical/literature search and utilizing specialized skills in a related field to analyze the collected data. Approaches include, but are not limited to, biochemical and biophysical analyses of native and modified proteins.

● Performing transient and stable transformation studies, gene expression analyses, and analyzing changes to plant lipid content and composition using gas chromatography-coupled mass spectrometry and other approaches such as lipidomics.

● Perform in vivo and in vitro protein-protein and protein-ligand association by methods including Y2H, BIFC, and MST, respectively.

● Participate/assist in manuscript writing for publication in scientific journals and/or presentations.

● Lab maintenance, including equipment maintenance and ordering of supplies as needed.

● Other duties as assigned, which may include attending Scientific Conferences and Meetings.

The Research Foundation of SUNY is a private educational corporation. Employment is subject to the Research Foundation policies and procedures, sponsor guidelines and the availability of funding. FLSA Exempt position, not eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA. Minimum salary threshold must be met to maintain FLSA exemption.
