JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

Penn State Outreach (https://www.outreach.psu.edu/) is seeking a Chief Strategy and Innovation Officer to work with a variety of stakeholders, senior leaders and subject matter experts to support the timely execution of critical initiatives on behalf of the Vice President for Outreach. This critical position will report directly to the Vice President for Outreach and will play a pivotal role in assembling action items, maintaining information flow, and encouraging decisions when necessary to drive initiatives and meet project goals and expectations. Through the review of data, research, and sourced perspectives, this individual will direct the strategic planning process and develop actionable plans to facilitate the development and implementation of strategies aligned with the unit strategic plan. This role will require a deep understanding of higher education dynamics, exceptional writing skills, and the ability to synthesize information quickly to facilitate decision-making processes.

This position offers a hybrid work arrangement that consists of both remote and on-campus work. Questions related to the hybrid nature of this role may be discussed during the interview process.

Responsibilities of this role include:

  • Working collaboratively with unit directors and senior leaders to operationalize organizational efficiencies through process assessment, analysis and enhancement.

  • Collaborating with relevant stakeholders to gather information, analyze data and generate findings into concise summaries.

  • Developing action plans, prioritizing project and initiative timelines.

  • Working with the Communications team on strategies for communicating key projects and outcomes to internal and external audiences.

  • Taking initiative to identify areas for improvement and proposing solutions to streamline processes to enhance organizational effectiveness.

  • Translating conceptual ideas into actionable plans and conducting research for initial planning phases of new projects and initiatives.

  • Providing high-level triaging of important matters by drafting agendas, presentations, briefings, committee charges and other written materials and responses on behalf of the Vice President.

  • Attending meetings with the Vice President to facilitate discussions, advance agendas, and take note of actionable items and notable decisions made.

  • Following up to ensure timely completion of tasks with relevant stakeholders, leaders, etc.

  • Collaborating with unit Financial Officer, HR Strategic Partner, and Senior Director of Development on matters of operational importance to ensure budget and personnel resources are aligned to support future needs.

  • Upholding the highest standards of confidentiality and professionalism in handling sensitive and confidential information.

    Requirements of this role include:

  • Experience in developing, implementing and tracking strategic plan progression, which includes identifying potential risks or obstacles and proposing solutions to mitigate them.

  • Strong research abilities with the capacity to gather and analyze information efficiently to inform decision-making.

  • Demonstrated proficiency in data analytics, trends in measurement and reporting.

  • Informed of current and emerging trends and best practices in higher education, community engagement, outreach and public affairs, including the evolving nature of higher education in the 21 st century and beyond.

  • Exceptional writing skills with the ability to draft clear, concise, and persuasive communications tailored to diverse audiences.

  • Broad understanding of higher education dynamics, policies, and practices, and the ability to synthesize insights from various sources.

  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities effectively.

  • Ability to be proactive and self-motivated, with a demonstrated ability to work independently and take initiative in a fast-paced environment.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues at all levels of the organization.

  • Commitment to discretion and confidentiality, with a demonstrated track record of handling sensitive information with integrity.

  • Demonstrated ability to serve as an innovative thought leader, embracing diverse perspectives and encouraging open and collaborative communication.

    Education and Experience:

    This position will be filled as a Business Analyst – Principal Professional which minimally requires a Bachelor’s Degree or higher, plus eight (8) or more years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

The salary range for this position, including all possible grades is:

$86,300.00 - $129,500.00
