JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

Penn State Global, a dynamic and comprehensive office which advances global engagement at Penn State and connects the University to the world, is seeking an Associate Director for Strategy and Analysis.

This is a one-year, limited-term position with the possibility of a one-year renewal.

Reporting directly to the Interim Vice Provost for Penn State Global, this position serves in a leadership role pertaining to strategic planning and business intelligence functions for the office. The Associate Director for Strategy and Analysis assists in the development and monitoring of long-term goals and provides insight to inform strategic decisions. Working across all the units comprising Penn State Global, this role affords an exciting opportunity to support strategy and data analysis while engaging with global programs and initiatives.

Penn State Global includes 90 staff members across Global Learning, Education Abroad, International Student & Scholar Advising, and Global Partnerships as well as the units that support and operationalize their work. In addition to facilitating the University’s broad global engagement, Penn State Global serves and supports international students and faculty at all Penn State campuses. Penn State Global emphasizes teamwork, collegiality, and open communication, while offering a fast-paced and dynamic work environment. This is a leadership position that works alongside the executive administration of Penn State Global to determine the overall direction, strategy, and processes for data analysis for the office.

Main responsibilities include:

  • Facilitate the next strategic planning process cycle from initiation to execution.

  • Collaborate with the leadership team and internal stakeholders to articulate long-term strategic goals and objectives.

  • Oversee the implementation of strategic initiatives, identify key performance indicators, and monitor progress.

  • Establish stakeholder-specific communication strategies about the progress of the strategic plan.

  • Collect and transform university-wide data to extract meaningful insights about the global activities of the university.

  • Create user-friendly business intelligence solutions (e.g., dashboards) to facilitate access to valid and comprehensive data about the international presence of Penn State.

  • Develop and optimize processes to capture and maintain the integrity of data.

  • Create and maintain appropriate data and reporting documentation.

  • Consolidate information and produce ongoing and ad-hoc reports to guide strategic decisions.

  • Support process improvement initiatives such as the implementation of Asana, a project management tool.

  • Perform other related duties as required.

Education and qualification requirements:

  • This position will be filled at the Intermediate professional or Advanced professional level. Minimally requires a Bachelor’s degree or higher and one year of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience for intermediate level. Additional experience and/or education and competencies are required for higher level jobs.

  • Advanced computer skills including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

  • Proficient in data visualization tools (e.g., Power BI) and programming languages (e.g., Python).

  • Strong skills in formatting and presenting data in written and visual formats.

  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.

  • Capacity to organize and lead large complex projects.

  • Ability to work independently and in collaboration and to manage multiple assignments simultaneously.

  • High sense of accountability to guide unit leaders and team members towards strategic goals.

This position is based at the University Park campus in State College - the largest of Penn State’s campuses – with nearly 50,000 students. State College is the quintessential college town in central Pennsylvania, surrounded by farms, forests, and abundant outdoor opportunities. Major cities (NYC, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, and Washington, DC) are within a two-to-four hour drive from State College.

Remote work/hybrid work arrangement options may be considered in consultation with the candidate, the supervisor, and Human Resources. Due to the nature of the role, candidates should expect at a minimum to work in person two days per week with a remote option available on the other days.

The salary range for this position, including all possible grades is:

$56,200.00 - $89,600.00
