Structural Design Engineer

The Role:

Working closely with the design office Manager, the role entails developing design solutions for damaged buildings which have been affected by fires, floods and subsidence, including producing drawings and obtaining relevant permissions. These schemes require attention to detail and the ability to think creatively so that the most costs effective and practical solution can be put in place. Knowledge and experience of designing and specifying sub structure schemes and the use CAD is a necessity. A large proportion of the work carried out is to listed buildings and an interest in historic and traditional building techniques is an advantage. Travel to sites is a requirement, but the role is primarily home based.

When you do spend time in our office, you’ll experience bright and open surroundings which offer excellent areas for collaboration as well as desk space. It’s an ideal environment for working alongside and interacting with fellow colleagues.

Main duties / responsibilities :

  • To propose solutions for the repair of damaged properties

  • To design construction work to agreed service standards

  • Check and record new instructions for design work

  • Agree design requirements with clients

  • Ensure that the most suitable and cost-effective schemes are progressed

  • Deal with contractor and client queries

  • Remain up to date with all new innovative repair solutions inc more environmentally sustainable options

  • Ensure Building Regulations queries are dealt with effectively

  • To be involved in training of wider company colleagues on various design procedures and processes

  • To visit sites to measure repair works and monitor schemes when work is being undertaken

  • To help develop net zero solutions

You will have/will be:

  • A thorough understanding of construction engineering in particular sub structure works

  • An engineering degree or similar

  • Competence with the use of CAD

  • Able to effectively influence those at a senior level

  • Professional in your approach to dealing with issues and colleagues

  • Appreciation of confidentiality and discretion

  • Strong organisational or administrative skills with attention to detail and a methodical approach

  • IT literate and a comprehensive understanding of Windows based programmes to include Word, Excel and Outlook is essential

  • The ability to communicate clearly and confidently with a range of people, both on the phone and face-to-face

  • Strong teamwork skills are essential

  • Superb communicator with 1st class customer service.
