As an EHS Specialist you will LEAD by…….

We are seeking a professional like you to serve as the ECMS Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) Specialist for the Union, NJ Site. The Union site conducts Quality Assurance testing and R&D activities focused on mobile emission and clean air technologies.

This EHS role is responsible for creating, maintaining, and monitoring site-specific EHS programs that are focused on regulatory compliance and risk management. Programs include, but are not limited to environmental compliance for air, waste, stormwater and wastewater, Industrial Hygiene, radiation safety, laboratory chemical hygiene plans, fire safety, ergonomics, management of change, occupational and contractor safety.

In this role you will be responsible for

  • Creating, maintaining, and monitoring effective EHS programs for the Union, NJ Site.

  • Serving as the ECMS representative for government agency inspections.

  • Performing timely, accurate and complete EHS reporting associated with regulatory requirements and ECMS programs.

  • Collaborating with various stakeholders on the optimization and continuous improvement of EHS programs in support of a dynamic research environment.

  • Leading and/or participating in EHS incident investigations and root cause analyses.

  • Participating in capital project reviews by 1.) making recommendations to reduce risk and ensure compliance and 2.) identifying the EHS resources needed to execute the project in accordance with EHS regulatory requirements and ECMS criteria.

  • Preparing and delivering EHS training to various ECMS staff including ‘hands on,’ classroom, and online training. For efficiency, utilize ‘train the trainer’ techniques as appropriate.

  • Providing advice and consultation to the site’s leadership team.

  • Leading the site EHS Committee.

  • Performing certain site-specific tasks such as coordinating hazardous waste shipments and radiation safety equipment inspections.

  • Actively participating in the ECMS EHS Community.

Your elements for success…..

  • BS in EHS studies or Science.

  • Minimum 3 years implementing and maintaining practical EHS regulatory compliance programs in a small manufacturing and/or R& D setting; New Jersey DEP multimedia environmental program and federal OSHA experience preferred.

  • EHS industry certifications a plus, e.g., CSP, CHMM, CIH etc.

  • Ability to identify EHS tasks to be performed by others, e.g., performing periodic inspections. Note: The ability to train and monitor the progress of others performing EHS tasks will be required to ensure competency.

  • Ability to utilize software and work in databases, e.g., MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, SharePoint) etc.

  • Effective communication skills focused on audience needs.

The competitive Pay Range for this role is $85,000-$110,000 annually. Actual pay will be determined based on education, certifications, experience, and other job-related factor permitted by law.
