Job Summary:

The Chemist is responsible for analyzing refinery products throughout the refining process to ensure quality and regulatory standards are met for raw, in-process and finished petroleum material, trains Laboratory Technicians and complete special projects.  This role will support reliable operations to the Lab and other areas of the refinery.

Job Responsibilities :

  • Maintain safe, clean and orderly working environment by complying with safety and laboratory procedures, rules, and regulations

  • Provide advanced analytical support for refinery operations, to maintain target quality of unit streams.

  • Performs analyses, preventative and routine maintenance and calibration of analyzers.

  • Maintains analytical specialization in GC instrumentation and methods.

  • Write and maintain laboratory SOP’s - Support Quality Control Program

  • Develop and assist with training material for job specific duties.

  • Provide advanced analytical support for Process Engineering problem solving.

  • Provide advanced analytical support for Supply and Distribution to control raw materials and ensure quality of finished products, including retaining samples for future analysis verification

  • Run the necessary standards to ensure the accuracy and reliability of the laboratory equipment

  • Maintain required inventory levels of supplies.

  • Communicate and accurately record results using LIMS software.

  • Promote teamwork in plant wide problem resolution

  • To work on improving existing methods or creating new ones to better meet the needs of the refinery

  • Other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications – Education, Skills & Experience:

At least 2 years of related experience. Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent experience.

Preferred Qualifications – Education, Skills & Experience :

Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry.

3 years of laboratory experience, possibly with petroleum products

Experience with Gas Chromatography, including calibrating and mechanical repairs

Experience in analytical instrumentation and Method Development

Experience in analyzing data, troubleshooting and instrument repair

Experience with Statistical Quality Control Chart management.

Experience with using LIMS software

Experience with technical writing.
