U.S. Marine Corps RANGE SAFETY OFFICER in Twentynine Palms, California

Summary You will serve as a RANGE SAFETY OFFICER in the RANGE MANAGEMENT AND CONTROL DIVISION of OFFICE OF THE COMMANDING GENERAL. Responsibilities You will serve as the program manager, specialist and action officer responsible for establishing, disseminating, maintaining, and enforcing the Range Safety program, Range Laser Program, and Range Radio Frequency Hazard Program. You will conduct risk assessments for all exercises, weapons live fire and unit operations. You will coordinate with various commands and agencies and non-DoD licensed agencies. You will review range safety measures at all ranges and training areas. You will review, approve, modify, or reject all requests for aerial, tank, field artillery, mortar, lasers and all other weapon systems live fire. You will review unit training plans and advise on modifications when exercise plans do not safely support the stated training objectives. You will coordinate with Range Scheduling to identify conflicts in scheduling and coordinate measures to de-conflict requested training to aid in the scheduling process. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-09 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Ability to identify and eliminate hazards arising from weapons firing and training; applying safety policies and procedures concerning surface danger zones, weapon systems, and ammunition; and, establishing and maintaining a range safety program. Education In lieu of specialized experience, you may qualify with the following education or combination of both education and experience: Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.M., if related or Have a combination of experience and graduate education as described above that equates to one year of experience.
