Job Description - Risk Management Insurance Analyst I, II, or Senior

What you will do:

  • Underwriting for company insurance policies

  • Pay premiums and reconcile policies

  • Work with Legal and Procurement departments to review contracts and insurance language

  • Issue and maintain certificates of insurance

  • Assist in enterprise risk management

What you bring:

  • Property & Casualty insurance experience

  • Experience with insurance contract language preferred

  • ARM/CRMP or similar certifications preferred

  • Resourcefulness and a desire for continuous learning

  • Ability and interest in engaging with the work team and other business units within the company

Position Description

The responsibilities of Risk Management-Insurance analyst positions include performing the following functions of Tucson Electric Power Company and its affiliated companies (collectively “Company”):

  1. Insurance: Preparation of underwriting submissions, evaluation of renewals and insurance policy administration.

  2. Risk Transfer: Manage vendors’ contractual insurance requirements and compliance.

  3. Financial Analysis: Preparation of budgets, analysis of monthly budget variances and accounting for O&M and capital.

  4. May provide services to affiliates of the Company subject to the UNS Energy Code of Ethics and Business Conduct and the related Company policies and procedures.

Position-Related Responsibilities

Risk Management Insurance Analyst I

  • Insurance underwriting submissions : Collection of extensive Company information, preparation of loss experience reports and completion of insurance applications.

  • Management of Insurance Policies :Collection and filing through appropriate record retention guidelines of various Company insurance policies and related documents.

  • Monitor and Report Vendors’/Contractors’ Insurance Compliance: Review Certificates of Insurance (COI), determine whether COIs are compliant, request updated COIs for those that are expired and provide analysis of compliance.

  • Issue Certificates of Self-Insurance: Review requests, determine whether or not there is an obligation to issue evidence of insurance and issue accordingly.

  • Issue Payments: This includes an understanding and execution of the appropriate accounting and Company purchase order (PO) process as well as allocation of expenses to appropriate operating companies.

  • Preparing Annual Budgets: Prepare budgets for insurance, claims and Risk Management Department expenses.

  • Insurance Audits: Respond and coordinate insurance audit requests including collection of Company information and communication with internal employees and external auditors.

Risk Management Insurance Analyst II

  • Can complete all of Insurance Analyst I duties with a high level of proficiency.

  • Contractual Risk Transfer Program: Periodic review of the insurance requirements within the Company’s standard Master Service Agreement to maximize protection within industry benchmarks. This responsibility includes the evaluation of contractor requested exceptions to the insurance requirements.

  • Preparing Annual Budgets and Analyze Monthly Expense: Prepare budgets for insurance, claims and Risk Management Department expenses. Provide the Department Director monthly analysis of budget variances.

  • Can perform other job-related responsibilities as assigned by Risk Management Department management.

Risk Management Insurance Senior

  • Can complete all of RM Analyst I-II duties with a high level of proficiency.

  • Insurance Renewals : Supports Risk Management Supervisor/Director regarding all aspects of Company insurance programs including coverage placement where applicable specific to the Company and in conjunction with Fortis Inc., coverage summaries, and premium analyses.

  • Contractual Risk Transfer Program: Updating and monitoring compliance with insurance procedures.

  • Insurance Policy Expert: Ability to understand and navigate insurance policies including development of coverage scenario analysis.

  • Cross Functionality: Ability to take on more cross-departmental work in complex matters.

  • Insurance expert: Serve as technical insurance advisor to the Risk Supervisor/Company with the ability to identify emerging insurance market risks, trends and publications in the industry.

  • Assists and supports in maintaining Risk Management Department policies and procedures, including identification of process improvements.

  • Develops relationships with professional organizations, user groups and industry trade groups to stay current with emerging insurance market risks and trends in the industry.

  • Can coach and/mentor less experienced team members.

  • Perform supervisory and administrative responsibilities in Lead’s absence.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to build relationships with a variety of internal and external colleagues in the industry.

  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to gather and summarize an extensive amount of data.

  • Ability to manage and prioritize multiple deadlines with a high volume of incoming and outgoing data during varied times of the year (i.e. underwriting and renewals).

  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, as well as in a team environment.

  • Broad-based business acumen with strong customer service, research, and reporting skills.

  • Desire and willingness to learn and expand knowledge.

  • Strong research skills.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or similar software

Risk Management Insurance Analyst I

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree, or 1.5 years insurance or utility experience.

  • Skill sets to include accuracy, customer focus, timeliness, flexibility, effective communication, and organization.

  • Performs duties with some guidance on less-complex insurance issues.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Risk Management, or related field with 2 years combined experience in utility industry and/or claims/insurance.

  • Insurance experience in Property & Casualty

  • Minimum qualification skills plus strong critical thinking, collaboration, and analytical skills.

Risk Management Insurance Analyst II

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree, 3 years combined experience in the utility industry and Property & Casualty insurance at a professional level (including insurance certifications i.e., ARM, CRMP, AIA).

  • Thorough understanding of Casualty insurance principles with ability to apply in contracts. Level I skills plus analytical and results oriented.

  • Performs duties with minimal guidance on moderately complex insurance issues.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree is in Business, Risk Management, or related field

  • 4 years combined insurance and utility industry experience.

  • Insurance certification (ARM, CRMP, AIA)

  • Minimum skills plus ability to lead meetings.

Risk Management Insurance Senior

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree, 6 years combined experience in the utility industry and Property & Casualty insurance at a professional level.

  • Professional insurance certification (ARM, CRMP, AIA)

  • An extensive understanding of Casualty insurance principles.

  • Ability to manage and have primary responsibility for highly complex insurance issues. Has the technical expertise to lead and direct others plus strategic thinking skills and ability to lead projects.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree is in Business, Risk Management, or related field

  • Preferred 7 years’ experience in the utility industry and Property & Casualty insurance at a professional level.

  • Professional certification of CPCU, ARM, CRMP, or equivalent.

  • Experience leading programs, workshops and/or committees.

  • Minimum qualification skills plus ability to lead a committee.
